Re: Alchemic Purification

I did a design using one color before that used alchemy as the design basis. I thought this direction could be used again. The shirt color is navy.

This alchemic diagram represents "purification of the body using water". The three alchemic symbols at the tips of the triangle represent purification (purificatio). The symbol at the bottom is the alchemical symbol for water. The symbol in the center represents the principia corporum, the body.

Hmm, I def. like this design better than the one you linked to. Though I think I would have preferred it as red on black, or something. GMV, though.

Very cool! Reminds me of the necronomicon.

I feel like this would look better as a book cover or a print, than as a t-shirt. Good work, though.

Triangles as text? Really? I've seen hieroglyphics and sign language counted as text, but not a triangle. I sourced and explained the triangle "water" glyph and that is about all I can do.

I think the triangle that was rejected was being used as delta, which means it is text. A triangle, as shown here, is not a letter.

I think the phrase you're looking for is Touka Koukan.

Yes, in that context it makes more sense. Thanks!

Equivalent exchange? I had to google that. Well, yes, FMA.... I have to admit I'm a big fan. Not big enough to know what Touka Koukan is though. When is the english dub for the new anime coming out?

Awesome does not begin to describe this shirt. Simple, but great.

At first, I actually wasn't so sure about the color of the shirt, but I now believe it may be the best choice...Kind of gives it a chalkboard sort of feel...Very cool. I'm very hopeful to see this print.

Rules about text aside, this design is really cool! Magic and alchemy fans will definately get a kick out of it. Nice work with the texturing and shading work on the bg as well. Artists here always manage to stun me with their nifty Photoshop brush-fu.

<--also an FMA fan XD~~~

Great shirt! I'll be in for one if it's available. The first part of FMA: Brotherhood should be out in May 2010 according to Funimation and Anime News Network.

Damn it...Looks like you got seriously f***** over by Woot. I definitely question the designation of the symbol as text, but, not much you can do at this point...

Too bad woot doesn't take great shirts like this, that are rejected in a derby and sell them through the week. Be alot better than most shirts they sell.

Agreed. A few here and there would be cool. But I also like the unexpectedness of the dailies. But yeah, some of the rejected ones are still great shirts that would sell really well, like this one.

Woot staff, you seriously need to be more consistent with your rejections. This is NOT TEXT.

Re: Alchemic Purification

These are glyphs that represent meaning. You might as well stop selling shirts all together because every picture can represent a word or 'text'. Absolutely ridiculous.

Wow. Can't believe this got rejected. The reasoning is completely ridiculous. 100% agree with the post above.

While I loved the design, I imagine that if Kanji were used in a no-text derby, that entry would be rejected. Kanji isn't a language of letters, but of full words and phrases (hiragana and katakana are mostly combinations of two (and sometimes three) letters and more closely would represent an analog for written language). Hieroglyphics, which I believe have also been rejected, aren't purely letters either, but can also represent ideas, meanings and words. Considering those, it's not entirely inconsistent for a rejection here. The dollar sign has gotten entries rejected as well...to be honest I think the explanation of what the symbols were hurt the design's chances of non-rejection.
