Cute idea! It's hard to see on the black shirt though, so I think I would like this better on a lighter color. It would make it more cheerful too

I don't know if i am following the logic here...
Black cat on a black shirt? His he suppose to be camouflaged into the background?

In addition i would like to finally see something that's not a chibi animal for once. You can only "beat a dead horse" so much until you finally realize it is dead.

LOVE IT! GMV.

Though, I did think that the blue moon was a blade, I think it is because of the shimmer/shine effect. But, now that I read what it is, I can tell it is a blue moon.

I think this is a great shirt. It's adorable and if you have a heart you can't help but feel bad for the poor black cat. He's just trying to improve his image.

Also in decent lighting it should be no problem seeing the cat in this shirt. I wouldn't wear it on the street at night I guess.. assuming I want the occasional person crossing my path on the dimly lit street at night to see my cat shirt. Other woot shirts are harder to make out. No one I know has ever seen cookie monster on his blue shirt.

As for the "chibi cat" claim, it's just a normal cat. It's not a realistic cat but it's a normal cartoonish cat. It's not like her dog in the lucky pup shirt (not that I have a problem with the dog).

Also Colim09 is just plain wrong. Everyone used these items. They don't LOOK anything like the ones in Ramy's design.

i'm one of those people who like my shirts to be understood the first time you see it, not a where's waldo search. saying that sometimes you don't need to throw everything in. just having a pot of gold with clovers on it, maybe a ladybug flying around, and then put the rabbit's foot on the cat i think would be enough.

as for the red balloon, while i know its in lucky charms i've never understood how its lucky, can someone clue me in?

Uhh, black on black? People do know that this will print nearly invisibly, right? Look through the forums for pics of Nevermore shirts...

My feelings and opinions regarding the artist and this shirt style aside, it is an objectively true statement that this shirt will not print well.

Re: No it's okay, I'm lucky now!

I really hope that that cat's stationary... otherwise his tail's about to break. I'd seriously reconsider the choice of a black shirt. The cat's going to be invisible.

I was wondering what was up with the fog (about half of which is nothing but poorly-drawn animals) but then I looked at who was contributing...

Ahhh-hahahahaha!

Exactly what I thought. In fact, I thought that the Seki justification story was going to talk about how the dog was really an evil dog who had stolen the Grim Reaper's scythe and hid it amongst the lucky looking things and was going on a leprechaun killing spree. I suppose my brain is a little twisted.

Edit: Oh, it's a cat. Sorry. My mistake.

The whole design seems stiff and too dark to be on this color shirt. Not to mention the cat's face is extremely disconcerting considering there's barely anything there. I do like the idea of a black cat trying to gain acceptance by accumulating lucky things, but not this way.

No offense, but how does this have any kind of style? I see no discernible style here at all. I see the familiar seki elements, but no style. Walmazan, Drakxxx and tanniver have styles that are recognizable across all kinds of themes and subjects. This is recognizable as seki due to the stiff, beady-eyed kitty.

I knew who submitted this from the thumbnail. Once I opened it up, I saw elements from other designs in the cart. Once again, there doesn't seem to be anything original from Seki. Same chibi cat character and rehashed elements from past designs to make up the rest.

As others have mentioned, it will be very hard to see after a few washes.

I've never ascribed to the whole seki = ramy theory (and I don't automatically dislike their designs - I have a seki shirt, and there have been non-winning ramy shirts i'd have bought), but their entries in this derby are outrageously similar beyond likely coincidence.

There's no theory to which to subscribe. They just squeeze out some designs and toss 'em out to see what sticks. Of course, they always include a first post describing the "thought" behind the design, but that's just for show.

Considering how many awful cat entries Seki has submitted, one would think that at some point her cats would start to look like real cats instead of just blobs with the correct number of limbs and beady eyes. If you can only do one thing, at least do it well.

That's because they work together on nearly every design and share elements/clipart... It's not like it's against the rules or cheating or anything. Sharing their clipart galleries helps them churn out gristle at a far faster rate than if they had to each draw each shirt from scratch.

I could point out that others have said above that light black ink against a dark black will be fine, it's dark black ink against a light black shirt (asphalt) that causes serious issues.

However, since I don't want you to change your lack of vote because I feel this shirt is abysmally executed, I will not point that out.

I'm not sure I would 100% agree with this. Even on my computer monitors at home and at work, if the screen isn't tilted to just the right angle, the black-on-black just disappears. I can't conceive of this showing up particularly well on a black tee.

However, the target audience for this shirt seems to skew decidedly female, and don't they all supposedly want people staring at their chests all the time? (Though perhaps without a perplexed, squinty expression.)

I really don't have a problem with the fact that you and ramyb win all of the time with your cute chibi shirts, but I do feel like there is some sort of joke/conspiracy lately to see how poorly drawn you can make a shirt and still win. Seriously, like another guy said, take another night if you need it to make sure your lines are solid and the shading/perspective is right. The two of you seem to fog in two hours after you submit, so its not like it is a huge/risk or cost to make your chibi stuff look a little bit more presentable.

Yeah, I had a similar thought regarding the bucket of golden "presents" that the animal put in the cart. I didn't think Woot approved of dirty jokes or restroom references.

I figured Seki would post something about how they're really lucky sun rocks that fell from the sky, hence their yellow color, or maybe moon rocks that were covered in lemon juice, which I think is lucky in some cultures.

Still, it's in poor taste to have something that looks like fecal matter on a shirt, even if they're supposed to be yellow moon rocks or whatever.

Good lord. This is a truly, sadly ignorant statement.

For one, your apparent definition of "creative" seems to imply that you have no idea what the word it really means. It doesn't mean bizarre. It means involving some element of creativity. In other words, it means not shamelessly and mind-numbingly repetitive and rote. It's hardly mutually exclusive from cute.

For that matter, why is "squee!" and inherently superior reaction to puzzlement?

Yeah, and with instances like this current chibi domination in the fog currently, this site is bound to lose plenty more.

Not to be a downer, but I logically can't figure out why the real talent around here even bothers
with this derby. Creative, original and well executed dose stand a snowball's chance in hell against the belligerently cute and the pop culture references.

To be fair, this derby topic was disinteresting. There really weren't good submissions, in my opinion, even from my favorite artists whose works I generally adore. Everything was lackluster. RamyB and Seki's work was consistent with their previous works - rushed and recycled. So, their fans voted for them the same as always, ignoring the content of their works as always.

It's not a surprise that they are dominating a derby with an uninteresting theme. Remember the Palindrome derby? No entries in this 'style' won that. All three winners were wonderful. That was a complex and interesting theme. This is not.

Maybe next week, if the theme is intriguing, we'll get more of the awesome entries we miss?
