Re: Derby #4 Maps

"hic sunt dracones"
Earlier cartographers used the Latin phrase "hic sunt dracones", i.e., "the dragons are here", or "there are dragons here", to denote dangerous or unexplored territories, in imitation of the infrequent medieval practice of putting sea serpents and other mythological creatures in blank areas of maps.

Re: Derby #4 Maps

I want this shirt so badly!

P.S. Somehow woot's formating isn't defaulting to including the image or title of the shirt, I wish it would!

Oh man, I really love this one. I hope it gets more votes. I would totally buy this shirt!

Edit: Ugh, I really hate that the # symbol in titles breaks the thumbnails when you comment. Manually fixes it.

I'm an spoon, what did you use to fix the thumbnail?

EDIT: I really dislike that they filtered "spoon" merely because now my use of the word "an" looks out of place.

I've got to make the inevitable comment, I suppose ... I like this design, but not as a shirt. The artistry and detail are fantastic, but when worn and viewed from any sort of distance, I can't help but feel that the finer details will be lost, and this will look like just another swirly dragon shirt.

LOL, it's really complicated. I hit the reply on a different shirt that doesn't have a # in the title and copied the code. Then I close that and replied to this one and pasted the code in and then I replaced all the info with this shirt's info. Basic manual fix, pain in the butt. =/

The problem is with the # symbol in the title itself so only woot can really fix it permanently. I'd suggest people avoid putting # into their titles.

Re: Derby #4 Maps

My only vote in this derby so far, and likely my only on period.

I'm not a fan of dragon shirts in general, but I do have a thing for maps with "here there be dragons" (and variants) written on them, which this certainly is. The art is well done, the graphic doesn't feel in any way blocky, the fact that it is an island depicted and not a dragon is sufficiently subtle to make me happy, the detail is nicely sketched, and I like the shirt.

Beautiful shirt! Always loved maps myself, and this shirt is simply a wonderfully executed idea. Mountains for scales are great, and the distance scale in the corner really adds a nice touch.

I love the art - love dragons, and have to agree that I think this would be amazing as a poster, but as a T-shirt it might lose a lot in translation.

Excellent design.
