Early sabertooth premonitions recorded in cave art were accurate, in what would become a modern day amusement/annoyance.

Not for everyone I'm sure, but the idea that amused me the most in a derby where the ideas weren't flowing.
For some reason for the past several derbies, I kept getting offline suggestions to use a sabertooth, so then this popped in my head.

Big props to walmazan for sharing his photoshop brush, which I used at the end to give a little highlighting - walmazan, you are otterific (both in general and for generously sharing!)!:D

I like the way the shirt color/design colors make it seem like you're peering into a cave interior. You've obviously channelled a prehistoric fast food mascot.

Thanks Spiritgreen! The bulk of the textures was already done using other methods, but walz's brush helped add some more depth with the lighter color at the end: )

The colors and textures are quite nice. However, it's still Icanhascheezburger and only differs in the long fangs. That meme should have run its course a long, long time ago.

I mean no offense, Jasneko, and I've admired your past work. I just prefer when meme designs bring something more to the table, like the Ceiling Cthulhu shirt.

I'm not going to even read the thread. I anticipate a little hate for trading on a meme. You know what? It's well done, wearable, and recognizable. And the colors work for me.
It has a good beat, I can dance to it... I give it a ten!

@jmmbell1987 - glad you like the colors and textures. I do understand your point ... I generally don't reference things at all, but I was a bit low on ideas this derby and this one amused me the most - add in the fact that I love cats and had sabertooth suggestions recently... it just seemed to fit perfectly with a bit of a twist plus the bonus of capturing that goofy expression with goofy long teeth. I knew some people wouldn't really care for it... I appreciate you expressing your opinion so nicely and stating that you've admired my past work (and hopefully will again in the future!).

The only problem I have with this shirt is that it does not work outside of the context of the derby.

Aw, this is a pretty good idea. Though I do wish the Sabertooth cat had more big cat like features... still that may have taken away some of the appeal you have on this. I like the texture and colors a lot. Good luck!

Haha, this isn't a shirt I would buy, because I can't really get into that whole LOLcats thing, but I like your design. The expression on the sabre tooth's face totally says, "I can haz?" :P

Although I'm not a lol cat fan, I have to say that you're artwork here is really really great, Jas. I hope you do more with this style of coloring. It looks great.

While I personally can't understand the appeal of wearing a meme-on-a-shirt, if this doesn't win here, perhaps you should look into the submission guidelines for the Cheeseburger Network's own daily shirt programme. This is certainly better executed than the sort of rubbish they usually offer.

@srm8ib4 - Really? I feel that why about a number of ideas and designs, but I thought this one could easily work outside the derby - even prehistoric cats wanted cheezburgers!

@DianaSprinkle - Actually originally it was even less big cat-like, but then I added a wider head and the cheek jowly things... I know what you mean though. Thanks very much!

@BootsBoots - Thanks! I was pleased with the way it came out too. I'd like to use the style more, though I will be nervous about the printing job on this style until I see it;) (I felt the same way when my design with distressing was going to print. It printed great though, thank goodness.)

@endangeredomega - I have absolutely no idea such a network existed... ha! To be honest, I don't pay a ton attention to memes in general... I took a closer look after seeing this (I find the first part when he's analyzing each cat quite hilarious!). I will have to check it out, thanks!

i don't usually fall for the meme shirts even though I like the original concept, but i gotta admit i like this one simply because its referencing happy cat and not just some unknown looking cat. seriously good job on the eyes and the smile

Not only is that the original lolcat, it's also the same one that this design was directly copied from. Even the three little white reflections in the eyes are exactly the same.

I sorta disagree. The message is clear, and it's cute. I wouldn't wear this one but I think it's pretty well done. Nice textures.

that's what i like about it. even though its a meme shirt, while some people will see it and go oh lolcat, if you know it its not just some unknown cat going i can haz a burger or whatever. simplistically simple

Thanks KaylaJ! The eyes and the smile are the 2 things I wanted to emulate (and spent ages redrawing over and over to capture that expression), so nice that you noticed.

@sTyLeS - Right...I wanted the sabertooth to be instantly recognizable as this guy. I loosely referenced the body, and worked harder at making the eyes and mouth look like the original to capture that goofy expression... making the reflections the same, etc was on purpose. I'm guessing the people that like the original cat will like this - (See KaylaJ's response too.)

hehe well it's a bit chaotic, but basically I did a sort of textured distress using a method geekfactor12 taught me a while ago using photographs to create textures (Thanks MJ!)... both to take away from colors and to add textured color... all over the place, both in bulk and in drips and drabs. There are so many layers - I spent a great deal of yesterday evening trying to sort them all out and I'm still not done! I think the version with just those textures is still hanging in the pre-derby thread. Lastly I used a brush walmazan generously shared to do the yellow highlighting in the bg, which added some depth. The brush was so great it's inspired me to look up how to make brushes and make some myself, which I'm excited to try (I usually don't draw/ink in photoshop, but I might try now!).

I like the idea, design & textures, but it should have been a cheezburger or, preferably, a brontoburger.
