Nice job! I like how you've muted the colors relative to your posts in the preview thread.

I'm torn about the mathematical equation:
+ complex integral looks cool
- the same results could be found with the much simpler equation Angle of Taco Shell/360 * 4/3 * pi * r^3

Good Luck!

IMO, this is both your best idea and your best executed shirt. The colors are spot on, the details are fantastic, and the idea is perfect for any taco lover.

Enjoyed this in the pre-derby thread, and am happy to see it off to a strong start. There seems to be a history at Woot of tacos proving quite popular, so maybe this is the week you've finally stumbled on the right formula to rack up the votes your work deserves?!

@vzfamily, I'm trying my best to get a taco design as often as possible.

@jabberjaws,Thanks. I'm pretty happy with this, I'll get this thing printed one way or another.

@Lagbert&Spiritgreen, Funny thing about the colors is the only real change is the shirt color. As much as I'd love to use the brighter colors all the times, sometimes you just need something neutral.

@Kylemittskus&Paigeg, Thanks.I hope a whole lot of people agree with you.

@Endangeredomega, I'm hoping that the deliciousness of tacos combined with the nerdiness of math appeals to the voters here.

@megsck, sure thing. if you hop the next plane to St. Louis you might make it in time for dinner.

There aren't any good taco places where I live either. It really sucks after living my whole life in So Cal. The upside for me is that I'm cooking way more than I ever did in LA.

I had the misfortune of trying Taco John's for the first time, a month or so back. We drove from St Louis to Kansas City (just to get some barbecue) and stopped to get gas in the middle of Missouri somewhere. Taco John's was across the street from the gas station, and I just HAD to try it. I knew it wouldn't be good, but that wasn't going to stop me. It made Taco Bell look like King Taco.

It's aji, it's a sauce that you find in Peruvian restaruants. I've recently become obsessed with the Peruvian dish, tallarin saltado, so I decided to make some this weekend and thought I'd make some aji to go along with it.

i have to strongly disagree with you. i had the unfortunate opportunity of working in most of america's small towns for 4 years. the kind of town where you have to drive 30-40 minutes away just to find a roach infested motel. many of those had a gas station, a mexican restaurant, and a subway or mcd's.

believe me when i say, the aftermath of taco bell was a upgrade to these small town dives. either that or they are so americanized it's not even mexican anymore.

i'm sure there are gems out there, but i'll stick with big city food carts/trucks.

Damn you all for making me crave tacos so badly. I'm going to see 'Machete' tonight, and feel like some good Mexican food would be the perfect accompaniment.

NYC is generally considered a mecca for all things culinary, but decent tacos seems to be something this city is sorely lacking. Any Wooters know where a guy might find some great, cheap, vegetarian tacos in these parts, or am I stuck trying to make my own?

I made a bastardized version, as I couldn't get aji amraillos or huacataya on short notice. Still good though.

Try Lomo Saltado, it's like Tallarin Saltado but with french fries instead of noodles. If you try that place, let me know how it is.

OoOooooon the other hand... his integral will find the volume of the taco at any point of being filled - half full, 1/8 full, completely full, etc - because it's assuming that the radius is changing as you fill it up. The formula above would be for a (deliciously) completely full taco sheell

I was hoping that the knife would have been the thumbnail, because it's such a strong character, I think letting the knife be a surprise in this case robbed us of the chance to own one of odesseyrocs designs and this would have been such a great example of his work.

I think that's because the vast majority of the voters here are somehow allergic to most art that has any thought and quality put into it. Sheeple like simple, unfortunately.

But take heart! You printed recently elsewhere, and I'm sure it will be the first of many to come. I have great confidence there is an audience for your talent - but as you've said, that audience probably isn't here at Woot.

Yes (excellent place to hone skills), and it's fun too, but it would be a pleasure to see you win here, it really really would.(And I believe that you will ! )(It wouldn't be much fun if we were competing against a bunch of hacks, right? It's good company for sure.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I've had so many failures in comics(where I need the money to live), that I can't be too mad about something that I'm supposed to be doing for fun. When The Boys got canceled at Wildstorm, I think I went close to a year without really being able to get any kind of work at all. I made it through that and ended up with more work than I've ever had. So, yeah I know the value of sticking with something till you find a place that you can be successful.

I appreciate the support I get from the message board regulars here, it keeps me going.

Art - the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance.

The element of aesthetic principles really does have to come into play here. Sheeple is honestly an insanely old hat concept that is pure irony in that when it is said, it exposes one for being just as much a follower as everyone else out there. There is no unique, there is no dramatic superiority, there is no higher understanding - just different.

It is ridiculous to get pious and express the idea that if something is successful it must be bad, because shame on it for appealing to the masses. This is a site...where an artist gets paid...to do his/her work. Of course it is about appealing to the most people possible.

Congratulations to those who acknowledge that their specific appeal may not be directed towards the audience that they are submitting to. I applaud those who keep on submitting to improve their own skills, and are doing it for fun! They managed to keep their inspiration. But if your art is literally just for you - keep it in your painted black room for your mascara coated eyes only, and don't show it to the world.

Complexity does not equal genius.

I don't agree with this. I think your art should always be for yourself first. Sure you should want to win the contest, but draw stuff you don't like for a fast buck. If you really love drawing cute animals or pop culture references, then go for it. If you like to draw things that are off the beaten path, you might not rack up the votes and get lots of wins, but surely you'll be able to attract a following and find success later.

I'm a Hip-Hop head since I was a kid. One of my all time favorites is KRS ONE, he's never had an album go gold, never tried to make a record for the pop charts, but has been successful in the 24 years since his first album dropped. The whole indy-rap scene is following the same model. They will likely never make the fast money, but they can make a nice living without the pressure of always trying to find the next hit, caving in to record company pressure, etc. They are doing what they love and making more money than they would with a record company, because they attract an audience that appreciates the quality.

If you really love drawing cute animals or pop culture references, then go for it. Well said. I was merely stating that if it is only for you, and if you get upset that others are not interested in your work...you shouldn't be trying to merchandise it in the first place. This is obviously not you.

I actually admire your interest in your art, your ability, and your desire to forge ahead doing your thing - hoping that some might climb aboard along the way. As I mentioned in my previous post...people like you have not lost their inspiration.

There again, neither have those who are motivated by different factors - money being one of them. Appealing to the tastes of the masses is a simple economical move. Doesn't mean there is less "art" involved, just differently motivated art. It may not move me, because I am not fond of everything that everyone else is fond of, however, I am fond of some things that the majority like.

I was expressing that people who let the majority decide for them (whether for or against something so that they can be in or out of the mainstream) is kind of silly.

So along the same lines, I've loved De La Soul for a long, long time but had never seen them live until North Coast Music Festival a few weeks back. Well not only did I get to see De La Soul rock the joint, but Dres from Black Sheep came out and did a few Native Tongues songs with them! Unreal.

Happy Beer.

I'm jealous! I've always thought that Pos and Dres were two of the most under rated rappers ever

Hey don't stress about it (I know, you aren't). You're not drawing cutesy stuff or making references to pop culture, which makes it about 100 times harder to sell here.
