"...but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn't bind up as much, and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and it's not okay because if they take my stapler then I'll set the building on fire..."
great idea, horrible art work
Re: Stapler Subtraction Effect
i was gonna say the same thing.. i love the movie. i love the idea. but the execution was bad... perhaps if it was all in 1 line it'd make more sense, but no need to make it so large and having the = be on the bottom

...well this stunk to find out.
I thought putting it all on line might look too squished, math teachers did this all the time in HS
, but I'm thinking I'll resubmit it all on one line.
I was just wondering - do you think there were other problems besides the on-2-lines-issue that caused it to get rejected? I would love to avoid rejection a second time.
Is my drawing simply too crappy? (as seems to have been asserted..?)
Is there some type of copyright issue? I blurred the Swingline logo because of that, and also the no text rule.

Realizing there's no pleasing everyone, if someone calls my work "horrible" I'll ask for some elaboration.
...so beje88 - do you think the composition is bad, my drawing skills stink, both...?
Drawn badly? Bad line quality...?
Color problems?
Sketchy style not working..?
As specific as you care to be.
This being my 2nd entry ever, I really would like to know.

Thank you I appreciate it
Also thanks to everyone who showed it some <3 earlier. ![]()
Re: Stapler Subtraction Effect
I liked this one, I have a feeling it was rejected because it's not at all parody of Office Space.
I think your drawing is quite good! There's really no call for someone to call artwork (of any kind) horrible without more explanation. That is not constructive and is no way to improve someone's quality of work. I really don't think there's anything wrong with this drawing (artistically, they might not be able to print it, but they never reject because of lack of artistic talent, so don't think that was it.) It may not be quite as polished as some of the ones in the fog, but it's really good for just your second derby entry! Keep at it!

In addition to not really being a parody, they might also say celebrity likeness (I know Stephen Root isn't a huge celebrity...but he is a celeb...)
You shouldn't worry about your artistic abilities...they won't get you rejected (only the content). And you're not the worst artist to enter the derby (have you checked out some of my entries? :P )
Anyway, good luck in future derbies ![]()

I want to agree with mindputtee here that I think your drawing is quite good too, (as I said before) the drawing of the man has a really nice flow, like you are relaxed and comfortable with your artwork.
I've got to go to bed now, sorry to comment twice here but I wanted you to know your idea was funny and I liked it!!! I will be looking for more of your artwork . Good night.
i don't see anything wrong with the artwork, its very easy to identify what your talkin about which is the goal of any shirt
i guess the only thing i could say is the building looks kinda wierd, hard to tell its a office but that would generally be hard to draw anyways so idk where I would even start lol

I think the + and = count as text

"Rejected because: Nope, can't do it"
Seriously?! I just looked at my account for shirt.woot & I've bought 42 shirts over the last couple years. At a minimum $10 a pop, I think it qualifies me to ask this question... What the hell is wrong with you people?
I don't normally vote on derbies for this exact reason. This is the first T-shirt design I've voted "I'd want one" on in months, and it gets rejected, for "nope can't do it."
I sorry, but the designer at least deserves a valid reason. A real critique, a real explanation. I've noticed the reasons for you guys rejecting any design are always ridiculous at best. And that's being nice.
This was the only design (in this derby) that as soon as I saw it, I thought, not only would I want one, so would half the guys/geeks I work with. It's simple, to the point & well drawn, IMO, but what do I know. I've only bought 42 shirts from you.

Nope, can't do it generally means there's a copyright issue. They said it to the Dr Who/time travel shirt and Ramy last week too.
Plus, even if they could, that isn't scientific method, it's just making an office space reference.
thanks to everyone for the replies & feedback
Sorry I havent been so good at replying right now, I have a minor but annoying injury (ridiculously stubbed pinky toe) that suddenly consumed my attention. I found out the hard way that *hurts* and bizarrely makes you super tired. go figure : )
But again, thanks to everyone... ok, sleepy time now. :/

I can concede, it's really just an Office Space reference, but what copyright issue?
#9 on the Reckoning is still a shirt with a Delorean crashing into the TARDIS. The Binge has Cookie Monster on it. The Original Blue Hedgehog (Sonic)... Faster, Higher, Stronger, Aimier... @–@... and It’s A Trap! (all Star Wars refs)... Teamwork (the Kool-Aid guy)...Poison Apple (beware of Steve Jobs)... McSsection (McDonalds).
Those are just a few that I remember. I'm sure there are dozens more. If Woot designs didn't include references to pop culture they wouldn't sell that many shirts.

In all fairness, a lot of the shirts mentioned, were daily shirts...rules for daily shirts, and derby shirts, differ.
So maybe woot! should take some of those rejected derby shirts...and make them daily shirts?

Well done! This is the perfect wear-it-to-work on Friday type shirt. I enjoyed it above the others.
