Superb! Is neighbor squirrel upset because Mr. Jones has a new "toy" or because he is blowing the leaves into his yard? GMV

Normally I'm a pretty big fan of Ramyb (I have three!) but I have to admit that I really just don't get this one.
More than any other one I've noticed, this is really just a cutesy animal with some on topic stuff going on.
Specifically, what's up with the double leaf blowers? Is one not enough?

Sorry this one isn't to your liking- the idea with the double leaf blowers was just that it is double the obnoxiousness. The squirrel is all decked out to blow leaves in the face of the other one, who is just trying to be responsible. The idea was amusing to me, so I went for it.

I have to admit that leafblowers ARE extremely obnoxious (my neighbors like to use theirs at 8 am).

I am that neighbor. One should always double fist leaf blowers. It is the manly way. Get me a beer and some jerky.

I actually really like this one. Nice job with the expressions, looks like you're trying to take the advice of others and add more expressive characters. The white eyes bother me, though. They just REALLY stick out, for some reason. I think it would look better if they were colored in black. Just my 2 cents though.

They actually have expressions, which is more than pretty much all his characters ever do.

This is better than most Ramyb work, however, so credit where it's due, though it's still a few leagues behind Walmazan as woot's "cute style" artists go.

And to the reviewer who questioned the double leaf blower- that's actually sort of the little detail that RamyB should have more in his work. It's an element that doesn't demand explanation, it's just there, part of the piece, adding something to the story. Little things like that go a long way in making designs better, and it definitely helps this one.

The poor squirrels got no pupils! No wonder he needs someone else to clear away the leaves.

Nice job. But like previous comment would be a big improvement to have the blower recipient have expressive eyes.

Leaf blowers annoy the hell out of me, so I appreciate the context here.

Re: Double Leaf Blower Action

I'm not normally a ramy fan, but I actually really like this one. I think I would have liked it a little bit more if the second squirrel was more covered in leaves, though. Since the leaves are kind of background, the annoyance doesn't come through as if he was covered in a pile of leaves himself.

ramy, I'm not trying to be snarky or sarcastic. I would honestly like to know - how come your animals don't ever have pupils in their eyes? Why always the blank "zombie" white eye?

seriously, I've always wondered and would like to know.

thanks.

There's something about the way the second squirrel is posed/drawn that just doesn't look right. Probably the arms and the ears.

No one would question your artistic abilities. But please, just once, branch out from the "Cute thing doing Derby theme of the week shirt design." Consider this a challenge you can use to better yourself. You've type casted yourself as a shirt designer worse than Matthew Perry is stuck playing Chandler in everything he'll ever be in.

Like this?

Anyway, thanks to everyone who commented and voted on the design, I got a kick out of the idea when I thought of it and am happy to see I'm not the only one who can relate to this scenario :P

Have to gripe about the white eyes borrowed from starbucks/spastic squirrel, but a marked improvement nonetheless. Discernible expressions two derbies in a row, way to go!! Still not enough to deserve a print IMHO. But well, the last one did, so this one probably will too. Eh whatever.

Oh snap! I love your designs most of the time ramy. And I think you actually do sort through people's nasty comments to try and improve. Some of my favorite shirts on here are from you, and some are from others. I like your cutesy stuff as long as it has humor attached to it, like this one, and like the turtle school that borrowed from Mario. Keep up the good work!

The eyes I draw on most animals are small and filled in black. The "blank zombie white eyes" actually don't look blank at all to me. Perhaps it is a style you are not used to, or that is only familiar to me, who knows, but the filled in white eye represents extreme expressions to me, either of surprise (if the eye is large and round) or anger (if it is a semi-circle in shape). It may not be relevant to this entry because the other squirrel is wearing goggles that cover his eyes, but in general I think that adding pupils in the eyes that are shocked or angry would clash in style with the eyes that are filled in black. It is an overall stylistic choice, and it's the one I like. It isn't a detail I forget on every entry, the eyes are intentionally that way. In this case, the eyes show extreme annoyance to me rather than being blank as you see them. The white eyes sort of give a "death glare" look to me, which is supposed to go along with the leaf hitting him in the face. If you actually weren't trying to be snarky and were genuinely just wondering with your comment, I hope my response adequately quells your curiosity.

yes, thank you. My curiosity is quelled I do appreciate your response. I'm one of those "why?" people that always likes to know the rationale put into things. You're right, I'm not used to seeing it, but it doesn't make or break the design. Just different.

thanks, and cheers

I got this account so I could buy "School" for my boyfriend. I had it delivered to his house and I was lucky enough to be there when he got it - I swear Mario turns men into little kids. He loved it. I will definitely be buying this one if it wins! I think I'm becoming a definite fan of yours

The squirrel with the leaf blowers reminds me of my dad - he always has to have the newest thing and can be extremely obnoxious or silly about it. The expression definitely works. The white eyes that were mentioned remind me of character designs from the Fruits Basket Manga - I really love the style.

Love it.

Re: Double Leaf Blower Action

You did a good job with the color palette and the leaves in motion. The abstract blobs and blur of color are well done. Also, the overall shape/flow of this illustration fits a lot better than I've seen previous entries of yours.

The only thing I'd really like to see different was a bit more definition to the leaf blowers. I'm sure they're simplified for the sake of the image, but I think if you had a stronger shape concept for them, you could really play off the straight vs. curved line aesthetic.

Still, nice job with the color treatment.

While I actually do like it, and find the "double leaf blower action" to be amusing, I just couldn't wear it as a shirt.

I agree. I never even thought about it until now though. The only "people" I ever wear on a shirt are stick figures.
