Re: Zu Chongzhi's estimate
I'd love some Christmas Pi(e).

Re: Zu Chongzhi's estimate
Gotta love this one's De Stijl sensibilities. Props for making a nerd shirt look ultra-classy.
Re: Zu Chongzhi's estimate
This had better win, dangit!

Re: Zu Chongzhi's estimate
Woot should let me vote twice for this because my identical twins were born 3-14-90 and they can't be divided!
This would be an AWESOME Bday shirt for them! WIN PLEASE>>>>>>! GMV!

I think I've never wanted a victory for a tee like I hope this gets print.
Re: Zu Chongzhi's estimate
Yes! This shirt is back and so is my vote! Good luck, I hope this wins!
I am so glad that this shirt is back! I actually think about it quite often! I really hope it prints. I will definitely buy one if it does. Good luck!
Re: Zu Chongzhi's estimate
Yay fog! If this one prints I will buy more than one. Gotta rack up the geek cred, ya know.
Re: Zu Chongzhi's estimate
I really want to wear this to school on Pi Day. It's meaningful and very nicely designed to boot!
I usually hate Pi-based shirts, since so many of them are awful and blatant pieces of pandering. However, this one is interesting and classy. Good stuff!
Re: Zu Chongzhi's estimate
This is classic Robert. Great job and glad to see this have a second chance ![]()
Re: Zu Chongzhi's estimate
The only thing that stopped this from printing the first time around was the timing. The competition is crazy tough this double-take but this has a definite shot at a top 3 place.
Good luck TR!
Re: Zu Chongzhi's estimate
As much as I love this design woot can be pretty awful at printing straight lines, so I won't be buying this.
Re: Zu Chongzhi's estimate
Dang this is sweet.

That's crazy. I have three cousins born that same day (same year). Two are twins (not identical) from my dad's side, and the third is from my mom's side.
Re: Zu Chongzhi's estimate
Wooters love this number because it reinforces their self perception that they are good at and love math. The truth is, they just don't know much beyond highschool geometry. Sure, pi is a nice number and used in a variety of more advanced mathematical methods, I've just never seen evidence that a wooter realizes such methods exist.

As for the cred of all the people voting for this, you'll have to collect that yourself.

Mostly I'm thinking of the Devostation shirt from this post:

Ok, that's a valid concern. Since it's not quite as rectangular as something like that, I'm not too worried. The 4's "tail" breaks up the straight line and could fool the eye if it's not glaringly crooked.

I think about this shirt every time I look at derby winners now. Make it happen.

Pi is not used that frequently in any of the calculus classes (Calulus 1, 2, or 3). Sure you might use it in the Shell Method to find Volume of Revolution or maybe as an upper or lower limit in an definite integral.
However, when you get to theory and analysis classes (Game theory, complex analysis, curves and surfaces, and number theory) - pi becomes more frequent. And the only people taking those classes are either math majors or computer science majors.
But the 'normal' person would see the most pi in a highschool pre-calculus class.

Alway a loved this one! +1

Either that or wooters just like Pie?
Re: Zu Chongzhi's estimate
Do people purposely go and vote for the stupidest shirt in each derby? Its not even original, the winners should at least be artists. Shenanigans!

That's cause this isn't a math forum...
Examples include, but are not limited to; Euler's identity, simple harmonic oscillators, complex integration of analytic functions with the residue theorem, Fourier transforms, analysis of potential theory including gravitational and electrical, Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, etc.
Please, next time, don't make blanket statements and assume things about others.
Re: Zu Chongzhi's estimate
how do i get one of these now
