What movie is this from?
Re: I Gave Her My Heart and She Gave Me a Pen
Haaaaa I was planning to do this one! Very similarly, except the guy not so creepy like. D'oh! Oh well, one is good for the derby. Nice job guys!
Leahbh wrote:What movie is this from?
Lloyd Dobler (John Cusack) in Say Anything (1989)
Re: I Gave Her My Heart and She Gave Me a Pen
This was a fun collaboration. I don't know how many times we sent the file back and forth, but one of us would tweak something and the other would see something else that would need to be changed.
Re: I Gave Her My Heart and She Gave Me a Pen
Awesome!
:c)

Go team!
Re: I Gave Her My Heart and She Gave Me a Pen
I love how he kind of looks like Billy Corgan. Both he and Lloyd Dobler get my vote. ;)
Re: I Gave Her My Heart and She Gave Me a Pen
The lighting/color choices are absolutely beautiful. Lovely characters on your part too, Boots
Very nice collab! GMV!
Re: I Gave Her My Heart and She Gave Me a Pen
Haha, of course. How else would you label your things but with a pen?
DantesHavok wrote:Lloyd Dobler (John Cusack) in Say Anything (1989)
ah. that's why i didn't recognize it, i've never seen that movie.
Re: I Gave Her My Heart and She Gave Me a Pen
Nice work you guys! This is the best of both worlds really, Boots' style and color palette and odysseyroc's talent for lighting and FX.
It has charm and pop. :^)
Leahbh wrote:ah. that's why i didn't recognize it, i've never seen that movie.
You gotta see it. Clever and sweet and very quotable.
Re: I Gave Her My Heart and She Gave Me a Pen
Great illo of a great quote. I just wish the pen was a bit more visible...
Love this movie and quote. I gotta have this shirt and so does my 14 year old. Great Job!
Re: I Gave Her My Heart and She Gave Me a Pen
Wow. This is awesome. I wasn't expecting so much awesomeness from the small image. That blue glow goes really well with that flesh color. I also, like the shadows; it creates ad great composition in my opinion.
Great work you two!
Re: I Gave Her My Heart and She Gave Me a Pen
The lighting on this is pretty rad.
Re: I Gave Her My Heart and She Gave Me a Pen
Agreed...neat idea and sweet image, but the lighting really makes it. GMV.
Re: I Gave Her My Heart and She Gave Me a Pen
Yes! One of my all time favorite movie quotes. I had this one on my list of potential ideas, but you guys really gave it life. Boots, love your illos. OR, you are the king of lighting. You two should definitely collab more often! +1 and please place so I can give you my money.
Re: I Gave Her My Heart and She Gave Me a Pen
It's official, even talented designers cannot make that glow look anything less than awful. 'Bout time we retired it.
AdderXYU wrote:It's official, even talented designers cannot make that glow look anything less than awful. 'Bout time we retired it.
Yeah! Insult/thinly veiled compliment! I'll take it!
I love the glow. If the whole design were glowy, it would be too much for me, but I like the contrast of glow and gloom.
Re: I Gave Her My Heart and She Gave Me a Pen
Thankya for the comments, peeps. I really enjoyed passing it back and forth during the collab, so I'm glad it's enjoyable to other people. ![]()
Re: I Gave Her My Heart and She Gave Me a Pen
You have my vote! excellent collab guys!
+1

mite hafta rock guyliner like that guy
theinfinityloop wrote:I love how he kind of looks like Billy Corgan. Both he and Lloyd Dobler get my vote. ;)
Billy Corgan meets unmasked Vader, imo.
odysseyroc wrote:Billy Corgan meets unmasked Vader, imo.
I immediately thought Uncle Fester and Wednesday Addams.
Great work you two!
Re: I Gave Her My Heart and She Gave Me a Pen
Wow... nice job.
The image is very well done. As others have mentioned the lighting is superb.
Re: I Gave Her My Heart and She Gave Me a Pen
Love it!
honestly, i'm just so sick of collaborations. i know at one point it meant a superb design by two leading designers--now it is merely a ploy used to suck votes away from other potential winners by using the weight of two 'big names'.

Boots and Odysseyroc r in ur woot, stealin ur voetz.
But in all seriousness, that is one of the dumbest sentiments I've seen expressed on woot and that's really saying something.

Gasp! We are betrayed!
BootsBoots wrote:Gasp! We are betrayed!
Yes, Boots, you should be ashamed of yourself. I can tell you simply are using your fame and popularity with odysseyroc to get double epic votes. If you were truly doing this to further your artistic endeavors, she'd be pulling the pen out of a taco. Since that is not happening, I can see this is vote pandering.
tsk, tsk, tsk. I'm shaking my fist at you like an old man.
... end sarcasm... neat collab and nice submission.

Pulling a pen out of her taco? I don't even want to touch that one.
I think the shadow should be going outward. i get it's suppose to be symbolic, then there should be two light sources.
Re: I Gave Her My Heart and She Gave Me a Pen
crap, our devious plan has failed. We would have gotten away with it too, if it hadn't been for you meddling kids!
Re: I Gave Her My Heart and She Gave Me a Pen
return to the fog! please!
Re: I Gave Her My Heart and She Gave Me a Pen
What the heck??? Why is this out of the fog? There is still plenty of time so get your votes in!
Re: I Gave Her My Heart and She Gave Me a Pen
Odesseyroc, when you collab you take that design to the next level! Superb coloring! well done! The gut holding his heart... creepy all day long! well done guys!
odysseyroc wrote:crap, our devious plan has failed. We would have gotten away with it too, if it hadn't been for you meddling kids!
Foiled! Like the owner of a ghost town who dresses up like a zombie to scare people away so he doesn't have to sell his land! ...or something.
odysseyroc wrote:Pulling a pen out of her taco? I don't even want to touch that one.
Oh man, I think you just did. First time someone had to put my mind IN the gutter...
Re: I Gave Her My Heart and She Gave Me a Pen
So cute. I can almost picture the big lug saying something like "Mongo give heart to pretty lady person."

No offense to Odyssey because I do like his work, but has he ever printed at woot? It'd be one thing to accuse Boots if she teamed with say, Ramy (PERISH THE THOUGHT ;) ) but I hardly think Odyssey and Boots collaborating could be accused of vote pandering (nor do I believe you have psychic powers granting you this insight).

No offense taken. I've never printed at woot, I've never even come close to printing at woot. According to shirtwhat, my average is 80.4 votes. Outside of the forum regulars, I don't think I'm very well known, let alone a "leading" artist. Boots and I also collaborated on a halloween design that got something like 25 votes.
The truth is I love coloring and I love working with other artist. So often, we work in isolation and end up sort of doing the same thing over and over. The same color choices, same techniques,or whatever. Collaborating allows you to get feedback and often forces you to try new things or get out of your comfort zone. While we're both happy with the final product here, we kind of forced each other into choices we wouldn't normally have made.

No no, look away, there's nothing to see here. ;)
I stand by it though. That was about 2 years ago. We were young, we were crazy, it was a time of hope and LSD. And I actually think it came out really well.

I did not look away (sorry), But that had more boots' style than Ramy's.
Seriously, Odroc is one of the criminally overlooked artists here. It's still great, If he gets some extra mileage with collabs, that's my opinion tho.

Love it, love it, love it!!! Best movie of the 80's... or one of them at least.
