question: so this silver shirt color, does the silver in it like shine or is it just a solid silverish gray?
Re: Killer Penguin
Sweet robot penguin. +1
Re: Killer Penguin
This is awesome and the illustration and coloring look great!
Re: Killer Penguin
One more gargleblaster I wish I was 10 people so I could vote for this 10 tiiimes! <3 <3 <3
Re: Killer Penguin
As soon as i saw the ROBOT penguin, i knew it was your design.
Re: Killer Penguin
The artwork is as good as ever but the orca and the penguin look a little disconnected. It reminds me a lot of a movie poster for a summer action blockbuster where they kind of superimpose action shots from different scenes to make everything look super exciting! Maybe that was what you were going for but I think I'd like to see more integration.
Re: Killer Penguin
I love that the pilot penguin is wearing goggles.
Re: Killer Penguin
Robots and penguins AND killer whales? I don't have enough killer whale shirts... I love how it is sketchy yet solid, if that makes sense.
Re: Killer Penguin
Haha this is awesome! I love the way the orca looks...is it wrong that I think it's beautiful, despite being on the verge of getting a beatdown? LOL, awesome work, Robbie!
Re: Killer Penguin
I would wear the crap out of this. So good, Robbie!
Re: Killer Penguin
WOW. One of my favorites from you, ever. Amazing. +1
Re: Killer Penguin
You are a genius. I can almost hear the boxing ring bell sounding off, or Super Smash Bros. KO sounding.
Re: Organ Organs
Re: Killer Penguin
That penguin must have one HELL of an engineering skill...are those epic level crafted goggles AND a giant robo-guin mount? Oh wait...this isn't WoW...my bad...
/nerdgasm
GMV fo sho. Nice work =)

lol is it bad that I knew what you were talking about before you said "WoW"?
mrwednesday wrote:The artwork is as good as ever but the orca and the penguin look a little disconnected.
This idea is awesome and as always the artwork is so well executed, but I agree with this. I think the whale's fall is too advanced? As a viewer with common sense, obviously I can see what's going on...but that satisfying 'ohhh, that musta hurt' wasn't there. It's almost like we blinked and missed the action.
Re: Killer Penguin
I didn't have much hope for this derby but this...this shirt MUST win :I
ochopika wrote:lol is it bad that I knew what you were talking about before you said "WoW"?
I don't know what's worse...that, or that fact that I can't help but think about how long it must have taken him to mine all that ore to make all those nuts and bolts and stuff to make the robo-mount...especially if that was his 1st flying mount. I suppose he could have jsut gone to the Auction House if he had enough gold...but ore is expensive now, since engineering is worth a damn again (as of last time I played...which was a few years ago tbh).
So, have I taken it too far yet? I'm not sure, but I think I should stop before I accidentally hijack this topic into a WoW discussion =P

Could you explain it to me then? I see a robot penguin laying smackdown on a killer whale, but his rocket pack is on and the ice is flying like he just busted out of the ocean and it looks like he's about to deliver a right hook....

It would be a solid light grey. A shimmering shirt would be rather ostentatious, no?

Good. That's what I was hoping for! Yeah, I was hoping silver was more gray and not metallic. Thanks!

I think you just explained it yourself?
Except I wouldn't agree on the right hook. I think that's where it looks disconnected. It seems like he's about to attack his back (or has already attacked and we missed the connect).

Maybe he just lifted the whale out of the water and dropped it?
Oh! The ambiguity is killing me! ![]()
Re: Killer Penguin
This is killer!!!
Re: Killer Penguin
That's the raddest shirt I've seen on this site in a long time!

I agree as well, for an excellent example of action done right see Robbie's T.K.O that T-Rex gets rocked!

It's a penguin dope-slap.
"Use yer brain, ya maroon"
edit: apparently he was just saying "get away from my friends"

Ha ha, thanks. I tried a few different poses for this, but I liked this one best. The idea, as I see it, anyways, is that the orca jumped out of the water and onto the ice a little in order to get a penguin, and then up from below sprang the mechapenguin, who slapped him upside the head to move him away from the lil' penguins and now is about to come down hard with its right (and possibly with a laser blast, too).
This is lacking the violent, direct BOOM of T.K.O., but I felt kind of bad for the killer whale.
Anyways, I'm not sure why they don't seem unified. I even drew them together as one picture. I honestly am not bothered by it or it anything, but I really need to step away from designs for a week or so to get a fresh vantage sometimes.
Regardless, thanks for the comments and votes, everyone.

great stuff

Yay! I got it right. dope-slap and right hook.
Re: Killer Penguin
Okay since I'm moving soon, I swore that I would stop buying woot t-shirts since I need to save money. However if this prints I must buy it. I don't have a Robbie shirt yet and I need this like a fish needs water.
Re: Killer Penguin
Oddly, reminds me of Johnny Sako's flying robot.

You know, while I would've liked a direct contact...there's also a certain tension caused by the future punch. ;) So that is just a matter of opinion on my part.
After looking at it for another minute, it might be the shiny-ness of the metal on the giant penguin that causes the disconnect. Either way, it's nothing that takes too much from the design (obviously! look at where it's at!). It really is a great illustration, Robbie. And a great concept. I like the thought of little penguins having a giant hero.

This might just be the greatest T-shirt I've ever seen
Re: Killer Penguin

I noticed two things that make this feel a little off. First, the scale isn't accurate. Orcas are bigger than penguins but not that much bigger. However, I think it just makes the shirt that much more epic in the end. Second, I think the perspective is weird with the mecha's left flipper in front of the whale. I'm having a tough time figuring that out. Still, I'd love to wear this shirt.

I don't think the average person will really care. I'm not sure I'd notice it just passing by on a shirt. The concept is clear and as I said the art is really well done.
Giving it a second look, I think what is causing the disconnect for me is that the penguin mecha has so much depth. It really pops out of the shirt. The orca by comparison looks really flat, which is what was giving it that postery look I mentioned the first time. So the perspective looks out of phase.
Anyway, good luck and I hope it's a print!
Re: Killer Penguin
This is great! I was looking at the fog, and saw the two robot designs, and was sure this was yours. Checking my hypothesis, sure enough, it was, and even better than the thumbnail makes it seem! +1
Killer Penguin
I hope this wins. I'm going to Seaworld and this would be perfect.
Re: Killer Penguin
this brings nerdy coolness inside of me. I hope it'll get printed.
Re: Killer Penguin
Pretty epic looking! Awesome job rglee!!
Re: Killer Penguin
This shirt must exist!

First place. I think.
Awesome job!
Love. This. +1
