I am surprised that they are not getting this one for copyright.

I agree, this is definitely Brian on Snoopy's roof, two copyrights infringed!

I'm not sure but I think Snoopy isn't under any copyrights anymore (i could be wrong) but I don't know if that still violates woot rules

Ok, I've barely read any other posts other people telling people they can't spell (which some people make MISTAKES, give em a BREAK, it's just a bloody woot forum!) or that this gentleman's idea is wrong or infringing in some format.

First of all, if people can make Star Wars anything, why can't they make Brian of Family Guy? If Woot decides to disqualify its THEIR decision and not that of the general public's.

Everyone needs to chill and let people just be in the contest and have fun here! I think this idea is cute and well drawn. Jeebus. ;)

I'm not sure copyrights ever expire.. I mean plagiarism is plagiarism no matter how much time has passed.

But you also have to keep in mind that US copyright laws specifically allow for parody (which is why SNL gets by with as much as they do) and this is most definitely parody.

All intellectual property is time limited. Copyright exists until 50 years after the creator's death. Charles Schultz only passed in 2000 so there is still a long way to go before Snoopy is out of copyright.

Fair use exemptions are kind of tricky, parody "is the use of some elements of a prior author's composition to create a new one that, at least in part, comments on that author's works."

Actually, it's life of the artist +70 years. The U.S. government bumped it up another 20 years back in 1998.
