Re: Guardian of the Underworld
This is very cool
Re: Guardian of the Underworld
Ooh, loving this. I love the backlighting.
Re: Guardian of the Underworld
Love the backlighting and love the colors!
You could've gone with just slapping on a cute puppy image and calling it a day, but you didn't, and it looks fantastic.

Actually he did submit one earlier but must have removed it. Anyways you did a really good job on this. Let's see more of this style in the future please
Re: Guardian of the Underworld
I like it! I'm quite a fan of your darker devilish designs :D
Re: Guardian of the Underworld
Very nice! GMV
Re: Guardian of the Underworld
I love the two (as far as I can see) scream faces in the background. It adds that much more awesomeness to it :D I like this darker side of your styles as well!
Re: Guardian of the Underworld
Yummy! This is very very cool, prefer it to your other design x50000000 ... Very nice work.
Re: Guardian of the Underworld
Oh, this is FUN! I WANT one!!!
Re: Guardian of the Underworld
Ramy, I always liked your stuff that looked like this. You did this more in the past, I wish you would do it more often now. This looks great.

Re: Guardian of the Underworld
This is a huge step up. Great work, Ramyb.
Re: Guardian of the Underworld
Rehash, retread, resub.
Re: Guardian of the Underworld
Cerberus
Awesome design. The two Ghostface looking images in the background make it doubly cool. GMV.
camoor wrote:http://www.snakeandsnake.com/3wolfmoon.jpg
There's a lovely parody of that classic shirt here in this very Derby, but Ramy's entry is not it. Three howling heads do not an infringement make.
Re: Guardian of the Underworld
voted with no second thoughts! this might be my favorite of your designs that I've seen since I've been here.
Re: Guardian of the Underworld
The lower two have really messed up mouths. The lower jaw almost looks like a side view while the upper jaw and head is a 2 quarters view.
I don't know how people look past this??? It was the first thing I saw and it bugs me... o well. I guess i'm crazy :P
Re: Guardian of the Underworld
I want this shirt so bad it's not even funny. GMV times a million.

no i saw it too and its why i could not vote for it. it looks way to rushed. next time take your time and make sure your perspective is correct on all images.

this is ramy you are talking to
hes a one draft man
seriously though, i really wish he would start pulling stuff when people point out valid criticisms and rework them. it would help him stop critics AND please his fans already by giving them the ramy art they love with extra style
EDIT: curse you two. now i cant unsee it ![]()
I don't know, it hard to say it was "rushed" since it would only take a matter of minutes to fix it and would have made a world of difference. I think its just a bad eye... every artist gets it from time to time but this one is pretty big and noticeable in my opinion (the middle dogs ears is a more forgivable one... kind of).
Incase he does want to resub it... here is what I am talking about. I don't think he will since he is in the fog. I don't know if I would, but eh... took only like 20 seconds, so here it is:

Yeah . . . that looks a lot more gooder.
I suppose ramyb's fans will "ooo" and "ahh" because it's a different style, but my first guess upon seeing the thumbnail was that it was his work. I think the cartoony line work of his typical submissions is evident even with the atypical perspective, composition, and coloring.

I rescind my vote. I can't unsee it either.

I keep coming back to this and looking at that... but I don't see it. They look fine to me. I'm not an artist... I don't draw or anything, so maybe that has something to do with it... but I think a lot of shirt.woot buyers also aren't artists, so maybe they don't see it, either. To me, it just kind of looks like they have an underbite, which seems normal for a dog.
Re: Guardian of the Underworld
I love every one of my ramyb originals. Eventually I'll have three shirt.woot drawers in my dresser:
ramyb
patrickspens
All others (BootsBoots & bassanimation get one side, and other artists I do not know the names of but own some of their designs get the other half)

I am honored to share a part of your home with Boots! Also that is probably the best drawer ever, cause Boots' shirts are such wisecrackers. :D

After reading this, every time I look at it I see the heads as someone using sock puppets. It's most obvious on the middle one but they all have the same effect to an extent. :O
Re: Guardian of the Underworld
The only "problem" I have with the design is that it looks like the first dog on the left has a much shorter neck than the other two.
camoor wrote:http://www.snakeandsnake.com/3wolfmoon.jpg
Obviously, you do not know your Greek mythology to understand how off you are in thinking these are related. This is a drawing of Ceberus, a three-headed dog that guards the gates of the underworld....not three dogs howling at the moon.

**edit - Cerberus - fingers got the best of me.
Re: Guardian of the Underworld
The difference made by fixing the mouths is startling. Without that, the lower heads look like paper cutouts tacked on.

oooo .... ahhh
Awesome design +1
The reason that Ramyb doesnt rework and resubmit designs fixing things is the same reason that no one else that wins does. The reason that some shirts seem rushed by Ramyb and almost all of the other designers is the same reason as the first issue. This reason is the system. Shirts submitted AFTER the first day are much less likely to win. Resubs, and late designs win so rarely that it is just not worth it.
Suggestions to fix this:
1) Put the rules for the next derby up one week in advance, not one day in advance. This will give designers more time to make their shirts, so they dont rush things out just to make sure that their shirt is up the first day.
2) Allow resubs with slight modifications to replace an already existing shirt, complete with votes. This would allow designers to fix small errors and other such things, but not lose their votes.
Implementing these two things would make Woot that much better, but if only one could be implemented, please make it the second one. While rushed designs are a pain, they are no where near as bad as watching great designs not win due to a small error or two in the design that would only take 20 minutes to fix.

I disagree, only because the line between what is a slight modification and a significant change would be too fuzzy, and judging the difference would be more taxing to the staff and no doubt lead to more community strife.
I favor a preview period where artists can submit their designs (outside of the realm of the message board), with actual voting to start no earlier than Monday. But even with that, you're going to get designers who don't want to take input because A) they are not good at taking criticism and B) they have such a loyal following, they know that sloppy work done on the fly will be overlooked.
Re: Guardian of the Underworld
This is the type of design I would have thought was bada** on a t-shirt when I was like 9. Are there really adults here who would wear this?
Re: Guardian of the Underworld
WOW. Awesome work.

Darn it, Chump...your "fix" definitely adds a world of difference that, before seeing it, only slightly bothered me. :P

If you want to feel really special I added you and Boots to my twitter stream as I was typing that up.
Need to see if any of my other favorite artists have Twitters I can follow, mainly so I know if they post a new shirt design up.

all him's dogs look like rabbits.

Exactly how I feel too.
Re: Guardian of the Underworld
Oh my God I need this shirt. It'll go great with the Red Riding Hood one you did.

Way to be cynical.

Having been around a long time, I actually have to admit this is an interesting design, flaw or not, to come from Ramy, when you consider that most of his shirts are rehashes of his previous best-sellers. That said, I am not so much caring about small mistakes as I'd like to see more artists work outside of their comfort zones and styles. It's like watching Food Network challenge shows with the same challenge, in fact, they usually throw curveballs to see how their contestants work outside of their comfort zone. Woot really needs to get more creative with each Derby and try to pull out some more potential out of the "Big Names" while continuing to foster the spirit of the game to new and upcoming artists.
Good game though, looking to see if you can try something new next.
