Re: Family breakfast
Well this took a lot longer than I had planned to spend on it. Used a couple of references to try to get the pose to look natural. Hope you like how it turned out ![]()

Re: Family breakfast
I DO like how it turned out! (gasp!) It's commercial, sure, but nice work. I'm not a Star Wars fan but I will enjoy looking at this in the fog all week. Well done.

Re: Family breakfast
Sheesh - one derby without a "no star wars" rule, and there are tons of 'em :p
Great job, though!
Re: Family breakfast
You do great work when you stay away from skulls and overly cute animals. I love parodies and this is a stellar example

This needs to be a shirt, whether or not it's in the fog.
Re: Family breakfast
I hope I get to own this one. Very nice light and shadows.
Re: Family breakfast
I like this, I do, but two things bug me:
1. the burner ovals are askew. Guidelines would have helped with that.
2. Darth's mask looks a bit odd to me. Not sure why exactly.
Re: Family breakfast
This shirt is quite disturbing. Vader as a family man... GMV!

I absolutely agree!
Re: Family breakfast
I really like the coloring on this one.

It's the eyes. They don't look transparent. It's like if Darth Vader were blind.
Re: Family breakfast
Go home and be a family man?
Re: Family breakfast
How is this a good t-shirt design?
Re: Family breakfast
I'll vote for this design in hopes to see more work like this from you, it's actually not half bad ![]()
Re: Family breakfast
When the "no stars wars" rule isn't in effect in a derby that derby becomes a stars wars derby.

#1 bugs be a slight bit more, but overall, this does work out pretty well. The shadows are in good perspective too (light source from the top left), one aspect that tends to be off with his other designs (and has been for years).
Re: Family breakfast
Blue Milk would've make it better.
Re: Family breakfast
complementary video?

Probably because star wars is banned for so long that everyone has to get it out of their system
World's ? What happened with the galactic empire?

GIMME!
Re: Family breakfast
Better than your usual fare but it seems rushed. A few more details like blue milk instead of orange juice and "Empire's Greatest Dad" on the apron would help a lot and the counter top/stove look really weird. I think it's a perspective thing, it looks like the floor is about 10 feet down.
edit: I guess a couple people beat me to it with the milk and empire ideas. It's only Monday, resubmit an improved version.

Thank you for this.

Re: Family breakfast
Should read "Galaxy's Greatest Dad" or "Empire's Greatest Dad," but still an amazing shirt!

There's no way this will recover the votes with a resub. Not with the current competition, it won't.
Re: Family breakfast
Thanks everyone for the comments, suggestions and votes! Glad the extra work on this design paid off- I know no design will ever be perfect, but I did my best to make the design work given the constraints of the derby. I actually debated for a long time about whether to write world's greatest dad or galaxy's greatest dad, but decided to go with world since it is an easily recognizable type of apron that a regular father could wear- I was trying to go for as ordinary a family scene as possible here
I'm glad so many people have enjoyed this design, it was a blast to make it.

#2 - It is the eyes, but not the blindness aspect as much as they appear to be sliding outward from under the helmet, following the nose-piece instead of being vertical. Makes the whole mask/head appear to be coming forward into a point at the nose.
Still, while I'm not a SW fan or even always thrilled when folks go for pop culture, this is a fun parody, and refreshingly different than vacuous chibi animals and reapers. Nicely done, ramyb!
Re: Family breakfast
So wait a sec, I'm assuming this scene takes place after the so called "World's Greatest Dad" sent a squadron of storm troopers to kill Luke's adopted parents?
Either way, I look forward to buying this shirt even though I'm not a dad.
Re: Family breakfast
I, uh... yeah. I hate this entire derby.
Family Breakfast is great!
