This is really cool! My only quibble is the eye is a little too large, it kinda makes the whale seem smaller...
(oh and sperm whales only have teeth on their lower jaw, but I'm not complaining about that.)

You're right, I think this shirt would be better conceptually with some white on the whale. I had considered putting some white on it, but I wanted to give the shirt an ominous feel. I felt like white would lighten the mood.

Thats funny. I even had reference photos and I totally didn't realize the absence of teeth on the upper jaw. I guess I saw what I wanted to see. As for the eye- I think the whales brow (if they have those) makes it look larger. It does look like he has a big ol eye, now that I look at it. If I do anything with this in the future, I'll be sure to fix that.

I adore this design. It does a great job capturing the energy and pathos of the quotation. I can't believe I don't see any other Moby Bubba Bo Bob Brain references with this Derby.

Yeah, that eye does look just a little too big. Thinking about it, if it was the size of the current pupil, that would feel better.

Aww, the Captain doesn't have a captain's hat?

About the white - yeah, it would lighten up the feel of the comp. On the other hand, if there was a way to make the whale lighter, (after all he was a white whale, wasn't he? or am I mixing things up) it would give a real nice up-front impression of the quote. Maybe use a very dark gray for the whale with light gray highlights? So the overall impression of the whale is still dark in comparison to itself, but it has more of the feel of being a light-colored whale underneath? Did that even make sense? I'm not saying you need to change it for the derby, just some stuff to think about, maybe play around with on your own

You're right- Moby D*ck was totally white. And in my experience, if it takes someone longer than like 3 seconds to "get" the shirt, it doesn't succeed. Adding white would strengthen it conceptually.

As far as the captains hat- If your thinking of tricornes- they had fallen out of style by the time Ahab would have been whaling. Plus, I wanted something that would read very small and only in profile.
