Re: Miso Happy Time

Anyone have any ideas for improving this? I could REALLY use win.

I always hear that girl from any of a dozen Viet Nam movies when I hear "Miso." Maybe I'm not as clever as I thought. Anyway, I would appreciate your vote and advice as I'm new.

Thanks!

This comes across as a little racist, based on a prostitute in a movie. Without that reference, it doesn't really make any sense, and with it...well, references to prostitutes don't really pass muster.

My speech is not parsing. I am speaking in ellipsis.

I think it's funny, but it's probably a little risque to win. I don't think it's bad enough to be rejection worthy, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were Asian peeps who would be instantly angered by it.

Clever pun, but I find it horribly offensive - and I'm not Asian.

It might only be offensive if you have seen the movie or knew whatever reference it's from. I read it and it just sounds like a silly pun to me. Almost like an engrish shirt...
(and I do love japan/asia, hope to live there for a few years someday, so I don't feel like a rascist person...)

you took the words right out of my mouth. I'm shocked people find this offensive. Get over it. It's just a play on words. I didn't even think about Asians. I thought about my love of soup. :D
I thought it was very clever. deserves to win... after Chupacabana. <3

As an Asian that enjoys miso soup, I love this.

It makes me LOL long time!

Glad you are in the hotist ! Just goes to show that not all of our minds are in the gutter or looking for reasons to call people racists.... Jeez !! Good job, be proud of your creativity ! I would call it jealousy !

I find the tagline borderline. You can't say it without affecting a bad Asian accent. Definitely makes me a bit squeamish.

However, props for avoiding a "Chinese" font. There was a discussion about this on the thread for Kevlar's chopstick shirt. I agree that fonts can be cultural shorthand for a certain stereotype, the way cartoons would have a snippet of "ethnic" music when a stereotype would enter.

The overall look is classy. The tagline is not.

Thanks for your comment. Aside from the fact that "Chopstick" and some other novelty faces are just plain poorly designed, I can't stand them. I won't use a crayon-looking face for a kid-targeted audience either. I think it insults their intelligence.

As for classy? I'm pretty sure that is something never conjoined with ANY t-shirt design.

My kid's teachers always send home letters in Comic Sans. They'd be better of with a crayon font. But the Papyrus subtitles in Avatar were the worst.

True dat! There's a reason some faces are dirt cheap or given away. It's truly sad to know that someone actually got PAID serious money to do those titles too! It makes me sick.

Re: Miso Happy Time

There are actual restaurants with names similar to this:
Me So Hungry in Austin
Miso Hungry in Miami

True. There are two operations who are similar, according to the {indisputable} web.
"Me So Hungry" is a different, though similar name. I did not, however, know about it.

"Miso Hungry's" name is ambiguous. If you look at the design, it looks like "Miso Xungry." I didn't know about this one either, until it was pointed out above. I don't think, especially since neither has a "™" or "®" symbol next to their name, there is any conflict here.

p.s. How have NEITHER of these businesses been protested relentlessly for their gross offensiveness?

You have to admit that this design WILL look better on a shirt, since it has no gradations and will weather the years of wear and washing.

What I want to know is, where is the shirt depicting the infamous Noodle-Barbecue Fusion restaurant?
(I'll wait for that one to click )

COME ON!!! Late night Wooters! VOTE FOR MY DESIGN!

It's really good, has sound design AND coloring. Surely, if you have integrity as a designer, artist or human, you must recognize this.

PLEASE VOTE FOR MY DESIGN!!!

Must recognize eh? At least you said please...

No rudeness intended, most people let the work speak for itself. Are you asking nicely to cajole those of us without the integrity to recognize the merit of the product? (I'm hoping the comment was facetious, but in the case that is wasn't...modesty looks good on most.)

I don't see anything wrong with asking people to look at your design and vote if they like it. Politicians spend billions asking for your vote. Go for it!

The middle part was facetious. Actually, I was just trying get in the thread so maybe someone would go look who hadn't noticed it before. So part silliness and part shameless plea for votes.
