It was intended to be a fairly generic sonic screwdriver, since I wasn't sure where the line would be drawn on pop culture imagery.

"Bowties are cool" is one if Eleven's sayings. Eleven had Ten's sonic briefly before he got his own. By that time he was in his new clothes which included his bowtie.
