Agree on all accounts for this one! I was trying to put my finger on why this one 'feels' different from the original entry, and you nailed it! Love how vivid the colors are.

And yes, bigger would definitely be better for this design woot, please?

Not.

You're right, the design is so vivid and so much fun, it's not shocking at all that it made it into the fog so quickly! :D Thanks for using sarcasm to point all that out!

~ducks the inevitable pitchforks~

Side note: I recently finished watching Blue Exorcist, or at least all the episodes Netflix had to offer. Loved the show, so it kinda makes this shirt a little extra special

^^ This. I voted it up, as it's just jaw droppingly gorgeous to me. I have a bit of a thing for purple, so between that and the subject matter...I was hopless to resist. I will definitely buy multiples of this when it prints...because it's gonna print, right? I mean - right?!?

While this is true, all of the other fogged items have a cultural tie-in, and/or a mashup and/or a recognizable story. This just seems to be cute for cuteness sake. I'd never buy it.

Oh hey you're right, the others ARE all pop-culture. How unfortunate.

Fable's design is inspired by the Kitsune/Inari mythology. Elements were taken from some of the traditions and lore that Japan has.

It's not pop-culture, but it's not simply 'random'. You can appreciate it as 'just cute', or you can appreciate it for the Inari lore involved.

There's actually a lot of things like this IRL. A huge portion of your common fantasy elements are heavily inspired by regional mythos. I think such things can be fabulous inspiration for stories and fantasy worlds. The Arabian Nights stuff is rather fun, for example.

The kitsune statues are at times taken for a form of Inari, and they typically come in pairs, representing a male and a female.[4] These fox statues hold a symbolic item in their mouths or beneath a front paw — most often a jewel and a key, but a sheaf of rice, a scroll, or a fox cub are all common. Almost all Inari shrines, no matter how small, will feature at least a pair of these statues, usually flanking or on the altar or in front of the main sanctuary.

I didn't think Woot allowed religious shirts. I took back my vote, because I wouldn't wear something promoting Shinto.

Haters gonna hate.

What I find most amusing is there's no logical means to argue that the cute foxes were shoe-horned here. The only criteria for this derby was 'Adorable'. There was nothing in the guidelines about forced mash-ups or pop culture references. It was also one of her more popular designs even when most people who appreciated it had to agree that it didn't really work with the derby it was originally submitted in.

Yet as her so-called 'chihuahua' calmly and logically pointed out, there are still some incredible references for those who have had any interest in Japanese culture and/or mythos. All your complaint really tells me is haters gonna hate, no matter how illogical that hate might be for the particular subject up for debate.

They don't, and it's not. :X

I wish I could talk you into restoring your vote, but all I can say is that just because it's inspired by something doesn't mean it's meant to be anything more than pretty.

This is indeed vivid and wonderful. Still, I hope she finds a way to get one or the other earlier version printed too, cause I liked them both as well.

As to a religious connotation, perhaps there is, but I don't see it as in your face. I think Woot looks more at whether or not the religious tone is fully blatant. Might I add that woot used to not accept alcohol refs (or so I'm told), I see plenty now. They could be relaxing their criteria. *shrugs* Just mho.

Agreed. Considering how popular Inari are in anime and manga, I'm actually surprised anyone could call this religious. They're not akin to a cross or star of david or even a celtic knot (depending on the knot >.>). Does this mean the voter wouldn't vote on anything with Greek or Egyptian mythological hints? Those were both a religion, no matter how the modern world views them now.

You know what, I actually like a ton of her designs, usually not for me specifically, but for one of my children (not always the same child but more often than not the 7 year old, cause he loves doctor who and fablefire does a lot of doctor stuff) and I've even defended her in these type of threads before. Nothing about fablefire, her designs, her auto-voter fans or her always being in the top bug me at all. BUT, the people jumping in to defend her constantly over and over are getting ridiculously annoying. The most negative comments almost always end up being removed by the mods, there is no reason to bother replying to them. Let her work speak for it's self, which it obviously does. She has a bunch of t-shirts in the back catalog, at least a couple in the current top 20 most weeks and usually at least 1 in the "didn't quite make it to the top 3 so only on sale for a week" shirts as well. She doesn't need a bunch of people to jump to her defense every time anyone says anything negative about her/her work. Sometimes the people jumping to her defense are just being jerks to those giving constructive criticism, when it's not even a truly negative comment. It's getting ridiculous.

Constructive critisism is pretty awesome. I've actually agreed with a few that were given to FF in the past. It's just when people break out needless torches and pitchforks for the sake of yelling 'RABBLERABBLE' that I tend to react. It's when they at least give the appearance through their choice in words that their only arguments are ones that don't even make sense that I find myself questioning their motives. To a few people I might come across as a white knight for FF, however this is mainly due to the fact that most rabblers happen to set up camp in her entries.

On a more personal note, I was raised in a way that 'arguments' often are excuses for great mental exercises. If you're going to complain about something, you should have a way to back up that complaint and strengthen your stance. While I admit that not all of my comments in 'defense of the artist' (despite not being the biggest fan and this design being the first I'd actually want to buy out of all the ones I've seen from her) doesn't always fall in line with these particular reasons, I still also admit that I have fun defending my own stances in arguments and challenging people to do so in turn. With how boring my job is most days, it's like a nice big mental stretch after a long sleep. This could stem from years of my dad playing devil's advocate in many of my stances, whether he believed in the stance taken or not.

Of course, I can only speak for myself. These are far from the best of reasons, and could be considered quite selfish since they are far more for me than any stance I've defended, but they are my reasons either way.

You're completely right. And for the most part, I've been switching more towards that sort of approach. I probably will be posting quite a bit less and instead relying on WootMods to keep things positive/sane. They've been doing a fantastic job lately and it's definitely appreciated.

Ohh, I agree, you definitely have been posting a lot less. And I do also agree that the mods are getting better at cleaning up the threads. I wanted to make that clear since I just now realized that most likely when the previous poster mentioned "her chihuahua" they were probably referring to you and I wanted to say that I didn't mean you specifically at all.

No worries. :3 Fable simply has some fans and friends that care about her. Though it's our responsibility to watch what effect our help tends to have. Sometimes it's not helpful at all, and when there's less than a dozen votes between side-sale and $1000, our actions can be very costly, even when they have good intentions.

I'm kind of in the same boat as Nitetigrezz in how I view discussions, but you have a valid point about it appearing to be over-protectiveness. And as you said, the art should be able to speak for itself; and it usually does.

My apologies for the misconception. Past experience has shown that a lot of fire gets shot at Tobias since he's such an open supporter, so much of his critisism and many of his motives gets shoved under a microscope >.<

I understand not wanting to reply to my post what with how long it was. I was just hoping that perhaps by understanding my own motives and background a bit, well, there might be a bit more understanding in general. I was about to pass up replying to begin with when I saw that you were replying directly to me, at least in the way you had quoted my reply to reply in general, if that makes sense.

I MUST HAVE Sometimes At Dusk. It is beautiful, has a great kitsune reference, and makes me want to burn all of my clothes and wear this every day. Ok, perhaps it is good that I have to wait and see how this fared in the fog
