See that old barn over there? Used to be some kind of commune or something, back in the sixties, early seventies. Those hippies up there, people say they taught a lion to talk. Some nights, they’d all swallow some pills or smoke something, and they’d show 3-D movies on the side of that barn. They’d all gather round the lion, the girls’d comb his mane, and they’d all listen to what he had to say about the movies. Or about life in general, I guess. Seemed to make sense to them at the time, but afterwards, they could never remember a word of it. Gentle as anything, that beast was. Commune got busted up by Nixon’s feds around ‘73, ‘74. I hear the lion went on to head the Film Studies Department at UC Berkeley.
