Meet the Artist: Apelad

by Shirty

We often wonder if Apelad plays video games with Spiritgreen...I guess we'll never know! Apelad is what we like to call, 'the bomb-diggedy'. We actually just learned that he is a Norse God. Onward and Upward!

Q: What inspired your curation?

A: My day job is in video game development, so I'm surrounded by folks in tee shirts. Office jobs are becoming more casual, so it seems like a natural connection to have designs themed to day to day office use.

Q: What makes your creative motor tick?

A: I try to stay open to a variety of influences, both old and new. There are lots of classic cartoonists and movies and video games out there, but there's great new stuff coming out all the time too.

Q: Where do you draw inspiration?

A: I keep a sketchbook and try to draw in it every day. It's important to strike when an idea hits, before I have time to overthink or edit it.

Q: Any particular favorite shirts/artwork from your event/the site?

A: Business Shirt by Phil Jones is a classic. It's a simple idea that's easy to get, but that's really hard to do well.

Q: Do you have a favorite artists who is also featured on shirt.woot?

A: There are so many to choose from! Spiritgreen immediately comes to mind. His designs are always clever and beautifully done.

Q: Anything we should look forward to from you in the future? Would love to hear about any projects you have going on!

A: I'll be publishing another collection of Laugh-Out-Loud Cats comics later this year, plus another parody comic book similar to the Thor issue I drew for Inktober a couple of years ago. I always try to keep a few too many irons in the fire.

Did you catch that last part? HE ILLUSTRATES COMIC BOOKS (oh, that's on top of working on video games)!!! How cool is that?!?! We are proud to have Apelad as one of our artists! Check out his curation!
