I love the misty effect the halftones create! Is that death riding in the boat?

Re: The Breaks

I really dig the textured, sort of painted look.

I put it on the navy color. If it looks a little off, it might be because of the yellow and black pushing the color to green. I dunno...

Yah, this is the first time I've tried something like this. I don't think it would print very well, but I don't think anyone has to worry about it printing at all.
It wasn't all that hard to do. I just downloaded some photoshop brushes at www.brusheezy.com, lowered the opacity and flow of my brush in photoshop, and painted in different layers with similar colors (blue, light blue etc.)
Then I changed each layer to halftones by changing the document from RGB to a bitmap using round halftone pattern at 20 dpi.
If you need more help, let me know

Thanks for posting this. I was wondering how you got that effect. I am always looking for new things to try, since what I am doing now is so bad... lol.

I love the texture as well, the mood and story are intriguing. The only suggestion I would have is making the composition edges a little less boxy with the fog/mist billowing and the waves splashing out... But, I still love the illustration and would wear as is!

Re: The Breaks

I can't help but wonder how all of these halftones on top of halftones would print. It sure seems to be a whole lot of halftones! Maybe you could post a detail shot just to see how small those suckers are? I like the colors, and the feel and movement of the piece. The wave does look a bit too solid for my liking though. Looks like you're doing quite well in the derby though, so good luck!

Re: The Breaks

The Ocean again...it's borderline, but skirting with being on topic. What I liked about this more than it's topic-ness was the feeling that the theme inspired a departure for Radscoolian. Not particularly easy to quantify for the rest of the designers, but these abstract themes are my way of shaking things up a bit. For better or worse.
