Re: Inspired By Nothing Wasted

I redrew and reworked a previous entry that was rejected because it wasn't one color (which was a requirement that derby). Hopefully you guys still like the idea, and like the changes I made. Including putting it on cream, with the paper being white.

It still has the 'sketch' look, but is now 6 colors.

Thanks

how odd. I had your previous submission bookmarked hoping it would print sometime and had just checked it this morning (after forgetting about it for a while). Glad to see it's back! GMV

I liked the original so much, but this one... I guess the hummingbird ruins it for me.

Re: Inspired By Nothing Wasted

Love it, I like the sketch style and the message that even something considered trash can be beautiful in the right context. Good choice on shirt color. I'd buy it.

The only thing I might nitpick is that the hummingbird looks a bit disproportionate. But it's not the focus and it is a piece of work on a sketch pad after all.

Loved this idea the first time- making something disposable into a work of art!

Hope everyone votes so that I can get this one printed!

This was probably the most disappointing rejection woot has ever made (though fair). Hope the second time around works out for it.

I think the perspective on the hummingbird is probably off, but I like it so much overall that I voted anyway. best one here.

I LOVE this design - my favourite from you, and one of my top 3 in this derby even though I don't vote on shirts I can wear. As with the other beautiful design on a cream shirt, I am so miserably sad. But alas, I cannot wear cream shirts under any circumstances.

I still click on this design EVERY time I check the derby, just to see it in more detail and admire the incredible texture and realism of that paper rose. Beautiful.

Maybe I should think about what wearable colour to dye a cream shirt with this design...a colour where the brown/beige tone won't show through.

(FWIW, I don't think the hummingbird particularly adds to the design, but neither does it detract.)

I REALLY didn't like the original... but with the name and the slight changes I'm seeing this one in a whole new light. I am really liking it! Great Job! +1!

Me too ... as far as I know, I've never seen a hummingbird anywhere near a rose.

I actually love the addition of the hummingbird. I think it makes it more interesting and compositionally brings the illustration back around. As for a hummingbird and a rose. http://videos.birdsandblooms.com/image/The-hummingbird-and-the-rose-jp

gmv and hopefully my purchase

It's not the idea of a hummingbird that bothers me; it's the way that this one is drawn. It has that long neck and the pot belly, and it just looks so goofy next to that beautiful rose. It doesn't fit in in my opinion. I would buy it without the hummingbird.
