Wind power is a cheap and clean energy source that humankind has used for centuries. So how come no one has developed a wind-based power plant that can supply a city with electricity? Why has no one invented a wind-powered car? Or a wind-powered boat?
Oh yeah, right; we do have that one.
But anyway, part of the problem is NIMBY types who don’t want turbine farms spoiling their expensive vistas. Another setback was the wind-power advocacy campaign “Got Wind?” which prompted more snickering than R&D. But there are entrenched industrial interests, too, standing in the way of large-scale zephyrlectricity projects.
Fortunately, there are steps you can take to use wind power around the home, saving money on your utility bills and preserving public resources too. First, instead of using a hairdryer, try leaning your head out of your car window (passenger side only). Second, on breezy days, don’t run an electric fan. Put it in an open window and let local air currents turn its blades.
Wait, that doesn’t make any sense at all.
