- determine whether the toe is actually broken. look for swelling, bruising, and stiffness. is it pointing the wrong direction? where is the nail? these are all things to consider. or just go to the doctor and get a diagnosis.

- apply ice.

- depending on the toe/break, you might try “buddy taping:” Tape the injured toe to one of its healthier neighbors as a splint.

- elevate the foot.

- OTC anti-inflammatories can help reduce the pain in your toe, but not the angst in your soul.

- don’t do anything for a while. healing takes time. we’re talking about your feet and your soul here.
