Do you remember this feeling? No, probably not. You’re too young.

There was a time, though—and it wasn’t so terribly long ago—when it was a thrill just to get your hands on a computer. It wasn’t everybody’s dad who bought one. When you got to try it out, it was a weird encounter with something exotic. Figuring out what it could do was like investigating a new world. A fascinating, futuristic world, with perplexing customs, where you didn’t speak the language very well. It was so much fun.

Now they’re just like any other household appliance. Sure, it’s still kind of fun to see your friends’ new system. But it’s not an entirely different kind of fun from going over to his house to check out the very nice new refrigerator they bought.

It was really something, back when. You had to be there, I guess.
