"Did anyone try just lifting it?" Anderson asked. The other fireflies laughed.

Of course someone must've tried lifting it! Otherwise, why would they have settled on such a complicated escape plan? Surely there was a reason for all welding they'd been doing, for all of the yoga and complicated stretching, a reason for all the small explosives that they'd built.

Right? RIGHT?!

But no, Arthur hadn't tried, nor had Marco. Not Scottie or Thalia or Richard or Brenda. And obviously, Anderson hadn't either, given that he was the one to ask the question.

So, when they did try, and the lid lifted off the jar with ease, it didn't feel so much like a victory as an embarrassment.

"We'll tell no one about this," said Anderson, and the rest agreed.

Wear this shirt: when you're collecting fireflies of your own. The fireflies will think, "Hey, that guy believes in setting us free!" and so they will gladly fly into your trap. They'll never suspect that it's all just a ploy...
