Dear Internet, 

It is with a heavy heart that I step down from my position as Editor Of The Entire Internet. These past 43 years have been an amazing adventure, but the time commitment of editing every piece of information posted on the World Wide Web has proven too great.

As the internet has changed, so has this job. In the early days I was just editing code shared by a small group of programmers, but now I'm copyediting everything from forum posts about DIY mustard to "irreverent" writeups on deal-a-day websites. It is simply too much work for one person.

For instance, trying to maintain a stylebook for the entire internet has proven maddening. Is the proper wording of the meme "Go home ____, you are drunk" or "Go home ____, you're drunk"? Examples of each abound, and even after I would make a rule and send an email to all internet contributors, I would still find errors everywhere. It's like nobody knew I existed. 

I would like to thank all four billion individuals I have had the pleasure of working with. I wish I had space to thank you all individually, but I still do all my work on an old typewriter that I then scan and convert digitally. And that would waste a lot of paper.
