Cut along the lines.

When the city cut down the last tree, something changed. It was a slow change, and at first it seemed like a good thing. There was less traffic, fewer honking horns. The people of the city thought, finally! Some peace and quiet.

But foot traffic declined as well. There were fewer and fewer people on the sidewalks. Then the sidewalks themselves started to crumble and the streets themselves began to crack. Eventually all the buildings collapsed or set on fire, not that there was anyone around to notice.

After a time, the ruins of the city were swallowed up into the ground entirely, and after even more time a forest sprung up. People began hiking and camping in the forest. Some people even built houses among the trees. Then came the paved streets and the shops, and down went the trees to make way for them, because people never learn.
