Learn the value of not getting what you want

My 7 year-old nephew and I recently went to get a smoothie. We spent a good deal of time (and by that I mean HE took a good deal of time) trying to decide which flavor to choose. He finally decided on strawberry, and I placed the order. 

"Ohhhhhh sorry. We're out of strawberry. In fact, all we have now is mango and wild berry." 

My nephew was nonplussed. "But I wanted strawberry, uncle Sam!" 

"I know, but they're out of strawberry so you can have mango or wild berry." 

"I don't want either of those." 

"Well then you can't get a smoothie." 

"But that's not fair!" 

He ended up getting the mango and was perfectly happy with it. Why do I tell this story? Because I tried to convince him, after he threw his little fit, that sometimes the world doesn't give you exactly what you want, but sometimes that's actually BETTER. On this day the fates whittled the options down to mango and wild berry, and there's no use fighting against that. In fact, it's kind of nice.
