Build your own Robo City! Download exclusive LouLou and Tummie papertoys of two of the robots from this shirt (jpg or pdf). Print the image out, cut, fold and glue as indicated, and presto! Fight ‘em! Race ‘em! Let ‘em stomp across the map of Robot City printed on this shirt!
In the 1988 Hollywood feel-good hit Big, John Hurd’s uptight toy exec tries to impress the company’s board with an idea for toy buildings that transform into robots. But he’s deflated when Josh Baskin, Tom Hanks’s overgrown pre-teen naïf, hesitantly raises his hand and pleads, in a thick voice that’s supposed to be the very soul of childlike truth-to-power: “I don’t get it.”
No, Josh, you don’t. Because as Dutch illustration sensations LouLou and Tummie prove with today’s shirt, there’s pretty much nothing more fun than robot buildings. From the manic claw-handed factory at lower left to the owlish apartment building at lower right, from the talkative “BIP BIP” building near the R to the cross-eyed oblong next to the T, Robo City offers an adorably clanky surprise around every corner.
This shirt was designed by: Dutch cute-wranglers LouLou and Tummie, the toast of Tilburg and the finest Dutch import since Golden Earring. They’ve done amazing work for the slickest corporate clients and the dodgiest fly-by-night outfits (that’s us). Tummie’s solo work can be found at this Etsy shop.
Wear this shirt: if you’re sent to the spice mines of Kessel or smashed into who-knows-what.
Don’t wear this shirt: and injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
This shirt tells the world: “Chapter One. He was as cold and mechanical as the city he loved. Beneath his glowing red eyes was the coiled computing power of a futuristic cyborg. Robo City was his town, and it always would be…”
