Me, I don’t know where he gets his inspiration. He’s just a simple plumber! And yet, this self portrait means so much. Look at that row of bricks. Everyone in our kingdom knows that bricks can be smashed. Only he seems trapped by them. Perhaps he has decided to stay within a prison he prefers, like a… a sort of enjoyable delusion. Also, and maybe this is just my reading of it, but aren’t those bricks the kind we see floating in the air on our way to work? So is he meant to be in the air? Is he looking down on us? Is this a statement that we citizens choose to be saved by an outsider rather than take initiative and end the monarchy ourselves?
And look at that mushroom. The colors are all wrong. Is it a symbol of life? Or growth? Or is that confused on purpose? Is this saying that it is growth that offers life, and that the two are not only easily confused, but forever intertwined?
Oh, I hope they have a print of this in the gift shop. Here, follow me, I want to check out Degas’ Dancers Dancers Revolution before closing. You’ve never seen it? Oh, it’s outstanding as long as you follow the instructions exactly!
Wear this shirt: a little larger than you need, so it’ll cover up your plumber’s butt.
Don’t wear this shirt: while trying to rescue your ape father from a cage. Technically, it is canon, but it’s easier if we pretend that game was just a crazy dream.
This shirt tells the world: “Ceci n’est pas une Pipeworld.”
We call this color: Cap’n Lou Al-Brown-o
