A very great coffee mug once said that old fisherman never die; they just smell that way. Hilarious and pithy as it is, this assertion turns out to be completely untrue. So much for hilarious pith as an indication of veracity!

Sadly, this line about old fishermen was disproved to us by counterexample last summer, when our old fishin’ buddy Rufus rowed out to that big bass hole in the sky.

It was a sad occasion, but we took comfort in the scriptures, for Jesus said to his disciples that He would make of them “fishers of men.” And then, after He saw that they’d gone out and beheaded and gutted a few men, He said “whoa, whoa, dudes, I was speaking metaphorically.”

Wear this shirt: as a reminder that the Grim Reaper lurks everywhere, always watching you every minute of your life with his empty, adorably oversized sockets.

Don’t wear this shirt: to the funeral of anyone who died while fishing. It is customary to put a suit on, for crying out loud. Show some respect. (Exception: If you, yourself, die while fishing, it’s OK to wear this to your own funeral. A person’s final outfit should be totally up to him or her, and nuts to custom.)

This shirt tells the world: “At least I went out doing something I love. No, I’m not dead. I didn’t die. I just went out. You know, fishing.”
