Adder, I think this is really well done! Simple and clever. GMV already, just thought I'd post some thoughts.

For all of the negative comments about how simple the "Grow" design is, I could comment that this design probably took you less than 5 minutes, but I won't be that presumptuous.

And unlike the designer of grow, I wouldn't deny it!

The difference is that the other shirt took second in a derby which, by definition, was full of well thought out and well put together and time-consuming work. This is 15th in a derby about Canada. I've never claimed to be against simple design. Woot's just unable to read between the lines.

since I apparently can't reply to your actual comment, I'll just work off the main comment.

The slapper-on of Grow made no comment as to the amount of time it took to slap it on a shirt, despite the debate raging on about whether it took 5 minutes or 5 hours. You're correct to state he didn't. By saying I'll admit that my design took so little time to finalize (and while I don't know that it was truly 5 minutes, I'd be shocked if the whole ordeal was over a half-hour), I am not saying the other entrant lied, but that they did not respond to the claim at all. As for myself, I'm perfectly happy to have something I consider wearable come out of such a short span of time, not to mention happier still that no one was presumptuous enough or ignorant enough of design to defend it by implying that it clearly took longer.

It's really nice that you aren't being presumptuous. It would seem to me that you were one or the grow fans, so I'd think you'd love this simple design. GMV. I hope it wins. S.E.T.

I was informed by someone not-at-all bitter that there is a similar design at CafePress. While I feel mine is different enough to escape the rejectomatron, I feel it's only fair that I show you the offending item. Please feel free to make your own judgments.

Thanks for full disclosure. It is my (admittedly unexpert) opinion that your design is sufficiently different from the previous desgin that there is no reason to disqualify yours. They do share design elements in common, but are clearly very different in form, much as several of the leaf shirts here are different in form.

Other opinions may vary, but I think yours is okay.

Obviously a total rip. You and your friends need to get over yourselves. 'If woot won't do something, someone has to?" It's their site! If they don't want to do anything, that's the end of the story. I know you think it's your job to police the forums and make them safe for everyone, but it's really not. You let woot know, they don't see enough there to warrant what you're suggesting. Done.

I think that everyone needs to be a bit more courteous. Make your points but don't get personal.

I just don't understand why Robglenn gets blasted because his jet pack (which shared design elements in common but was different in form, your words) to the threadless jet pack but he's a rip off artist and Adder isn't. Same with the Periodic table. It's a periodic table, of course it looks the same as the thousand other periodic table shirts out there. I guess it's a nice standard to follow if it's not your friend, then blast away. If it is, then everything looks cool with it.

I don't remember blasting anyone about a jet pack? Or about the periodic table, actually. I was just discussing the hoser shirt.

Or did you mean the community in general? As I said, I'm no expert, so I don't know what flies around here and what doesn't. Sorry for any confusion.

I'm talking about the long post AdderXYU wrote last night. I think it got deleted. He went point by point on why a lot of RobGlenn's entries were stolen from somewhere else. A lot of them looked a lot less similar to their sources than AdderXYU's hoser entry to the cafepress one.

The actual quote is thus

"Wizard pointed out in the first thread (in case you didn't get to see it) that Rob ALSO took another threadless idea: my pants are too tight! Pack. Though I can't find the exact location of his rip, I recall the controversy (and don't think I could find the rip then, either, to be fair). The closest to the concept that I've seen, however, is Pilot, which to me isn't all that close, but has a more glaring issue"

Adder,

Try a search for robglenn on shirtderbystats. You can see the link for all of his derby entries and a link to the corresponding woot thread. If you really want to pursue this, most of the entries that had any controversy had links in the woot entry thread with 'evidence', showing, or not showing, a pattern of ideas.

This post was just advice for ease of gathering data, I am not trying to render any judgment.

I agree with daedalus. They both use the same word. One has a picture of a hose, the other has a nozzle at the end of a letter. If this is a copy, then theoretically woot could disqualify every design that says Canada and has a maple leaf, since they are all share design elements with Something else somewhere else on the web.

I hope this doesn't disappoint you, but unlike mr. malkmus, I don't design with my back to my audience.

Still, cool that he's got something new out. Pavement aren't a band I got too deeply in, but they have a lot of stuff I do like.
