Re: Breaking Away

Breaking Away is a cycling term when a rider breaks from the rest of the pack and goes out on their own. With the Tour de France starting soon, I was inspired to do a Break Away design with a rider breaking from the peloton or chase group. Also a great design for those who remember the movie 'Breaking Away"...one of my favorites from the late seventies. Thank you for your vote!

I think this is a really good and unique interpretation of independence. Great concept, and the yellow is a great choice for the Tour de France! GMV.

Thanks for the comment and the vote! I chose the yellow on red for my husband. He loves cycling (especially the Tour) and he's from Spain....so it seemed like a perfect combination.

Actually...too bad we don't have more space for riders...it would be neat to have this design trail around to the back of the shirt. For the riders who truly are in the back!

Does your husband ride professionally? One of my brothers did Velodrome racing for awhile. It's pretty neat to watch and there are some wild strategies that come into play across the field of riders.

LOVE IT! I was thumbing through the entries and my jaw dropped. I'm a life-long cyclist and a great fan of the movie (and Le Tour). My parents were actually extras in the movie as it was shot here in the foothills west of Denver.

Got my VOTE!

Awesome! We used to live in Boulder. I didn't realize that "Breaking Away" was filmed in Colorado. Neat!

We're an avid cycling family too. One of my brothers visited the Olympic Training Center (Colorado Springs?) and did time trials in the foothills. Didn't end up making the Olympic team, but it was still very exciting for him to get the chance to try out.

Glad you like the design. I hadn't seen many cycling designs yet, so I thought I'd try one. Don't know if it is a shirt that everyone would wear...but hopefully it will appeal to some.

Thanks again!

I'm a triathlete.....don't like 'roadies' much, but still voted for it.

Cool shirt....but the lead guy should be in aerobars....

Ah....aerobars! Good idea. Are those primarily used in time trials? That's where I usually see them, but maybe they are on regular road races as well? Still...a great suggestion and something that would have looked nice on the lead rider!

Thanks!

If you look at the IMDB, you'll see that it was filmed in Indiana, mostly around Bloomington.

I can remember going to the quarry they used in the movie, and swimming there, back when I was about 17 yrs old. It was cool. The water was so deep, and clear. I was a counselor at a summer camp, must have been a couple of years after the movie was shot. Lots of kids there, it was all completely illegal.

Ya, my bad. I completely switched my two favourite cycling movies, "Breaking Away" and "American Flyers." Still love the shirt though.

Yes! I remember that scene! What a neat place to be able to swim. Sounds like great memories!

I haven't seen American Flyers. If it's like Breaking Away, I'm sure I'll love it.
