Derby #98: Famous Quotations Illustrated

1928. Caged Inspiration.

See the first in this series was much less obvious if not equally infringing. With the actual mouse, I'm not ready to take on Disney.

Rejected because: See the first in this series was much less obvious if not equally infringing. With the actual mouse, I'm not ready to take on Disney.

After the Pandora's Friends print, I'm really, REALLY concerned this may print too close to the shirt color.

I was wondering the same thing... I am already depressed that it seems like I may have to wash the Pandora shirt 50 times to make the design show up...

I like the design, a lot... just not sure if it will show up well on the shirt..

Re: 1928. Caged Inspiration.

I kind of like the idea of the sequel but it really doesn't capture the serendipity and charm of the original. The juxtaposition of the mouse and the coins into a "eureka" moment was pretty amazing. This is just too contrived for my taste especially since the other had realism on its side as well.

sure. it was from derby #76:beginning. CLICK HERE

I then tweaked the design a bit and put it on black. It's for sale at cameesa... there's some links above that other people have posted.

I wanted this design to feel like a sequel to that design, so I used the same original colors, and re-drew the same candle.

Thanks for the votes!

Wait. Wait. Wait, wait, wait, wait, WHAT. Now just wait.

You mean someone actually used a QUOTE like the derby rules say?? An actual, factual quote??? Not some hackneyed expression or cliche? Eeee I'm so excited! -hops up and down- This is so amazing!

AAAA++++++ Whooo!!! The first and only derby to follow the actual rules. Ah well, too bad there are no rules anymore.

I really wish that Cameesa would print some more of your other shirt on XL. I discovered the site AFTER the shirt sold out in that size.

Looks like this may not make it here... Have any plans to sub it on cameesa later on? I didn't support the first one(though I probably should have), but I would definitely give this one my money.

I LOVED your original drawing, skirochester, and was thrilled to see it print on Cameesa.

But this doesn't work for me, I'm sorry. I get that it's a sequel, so I won't complain about the recycling of an idea. What I will complain about is that your original drawing had an actual mouse, which was very well drawn. Now that same real mouse has turned into a cartoony mouse wearing gloves after being caged?

Your first shirt was a beautiful illustration of inspiration. This is too "Disneyfied." I think this needs some significant re-working to even be on the same playing field as your first one.

I think it fits the quote perfectly. It suggests that instead of a mouse and three coins giving the inspiration for Mickey, there is actually a mouse somewhere locked deep in the Disney vault that looks like Mickey.

no hard feeling woot. I knew going in that it was bordering the line of parody vs. copyright infringement. figured it was your call to make. I don't want to be the reason that the site becomes disney.shirt.woot.com.
