Re: Captain Ahab
Oh, neat! The subject really suits your wood-block-y style. GMV.
Re: Captain Ahab
Awesome! I always get excited over waves that flow like they should. GMV
Re: Captain Ahab
This is the best piece you've done by far and your style lends itself well to the way the waves appear. Great Job!
Re: Captain Ahab
Very nice, as usual. Ahab should team up with the motley crew from last week. Together they'd be unstoppable. After conquering the white whale, they could take on white lion, white snake, great white, white zombie, white stripes (that one should be easy). The possibilities are endless.
Re: Captain Ahab
Glad someone did a Moby not Jane shirt. I don't like the placement though... ![]()
Re: Captain Ahab
Exactly what tjost said, this is your best design so far! The colors and the overall layout are very well controlled, and it's a great subject for this derby.
Good luck! GMV.
Re: Captain Ahab
Nice work. GMV.
Re: Captain Ahab
Hi everybody, I am trying to finish a hansel and gretel design tonite
so I havn't had a chance to enjoy everyones entries so far or to thank anybody for the nice comments, I DO thank you!!BE checking you all out later! Love, snowqueenvt
Re: Captain Ahab
Wow Snow wow - this is terrific! Love, love, love the whale and yours is one of the clearest connection to the theme I've seen so far. Ahab's megalomania is clearly on display and is as fascinating as it frightening. GMV for sure Snow!!! Good luck.
Re: Captain Ahab
Love your illo, as always, SnowQueen! Just a perfect, and perfectly antique-ish rendering of Ahab's madness. Sadly, I simply can NOT wear a huge white whale over the girls. Still, GMV for the terrific design.
BTW - poor kylemittskus got filtered but good. Moby Not Jane???? C'mon Woot, really! D.I.C.K. It's a real word, ya know?

Re: Captain Ahab
The highest I've ever seen one of your entries, congrats! I hope this at least gets an HM! Very nice job on this, your efforts and sleep deprivation have definitely paid off! I'm rooting for you!
Re: Captain Ahab
I Really love how the water came out!
SnowQueenVT wrote:Your idea is happier than what is about to happen in this illustration! In the book, Ahab throws the harpoon which has become wrapped around his leg, he gets hauled overboard and endlessly strapprd to the white whale forever....BUt if the Motley crue ship were closeby they could save him, then give him a new obsession....rockn roll!
OM freakin G! Too funnee.
Re: Captain Ahab
This is beautiful work, SnowQueenVT. Love love love the water.
Re: Captain Ahab
Hey SnowQueen
I like how every week your designs have a very distinctive style, and I can tell that it's by you. Normally though I just don't like the way your designs actually sit on the shirt.
This design, however, I think looks good on a shirt! You've taken away some of the boxy/framing elements and let this one "float" a little bit more. And I really like the details/hatching on the whale.
Definitely a step forward for me. It took me a while to figure out how to make my own art look good on a shirt (being more than just a pretty picture). I hope your work continues to move in this direction.
Good luck!

Hi again Jesse, Thankyou so much for this nice comment here, I guess I am figuring out the formula
a) Do not sleep
b)Get it done by friday
c)One good one = better than 2 bad ones
(The hardest one is getting it done by friday, thats the toughee!!

SnowQueenVT wrote:OOOO great word megalomania!!.....Did you ever get my reply to your PM? (or did I send it to myself?
Yes Snow - I did get you PM - and there is no need at all to apologize. You have a fascinating background and I loved reading how it has made you the artist you are today. You should write your own story and keep it (along with all your artwork - including derby entries) for your kids.
It's a great life story for sure.
Again - love your work - and finally, you're getting the votes!

- Congratulations on winning a Best Loser Award!
- This is not SPAM.
- Winning a BLA does NOT mean this shirt won't print -- I'm hoping it does.
- Your one and only gift is this crappy little badge in your shirt thread. Enjoy.
- When time and space are through, I'll be found in you.
Thankyou so much ThatRobert, I am honored honored honored...
also happy happy happy! (This means alot to me)
Merci , gracias and thankyou (I wish I knew more ways to say thankyou!)
(Looking forward to the new derby...see you then ...)
