Re: Persephone Emerges

A bit late getting this up but here it is!

Based on the Greek myth of Persephone, compelled to reign as queen of the Underworld for half the year. Her emergence heralds the coming of spring!

Hope you all enjoy

I really like the design, but it doesn't seem to mesh with the shirt very well. I can't say I really know how to fix it but the asphalt just seems wrong.

I actually used the asphalt specifically because I wanted to convey the feeling of a barren landscape. Green or olive would have seemed too verdant and taken the focus off of the sprouting greenery, and while I considered brown, I think the black outlines would have all but disappeared.
Just my reasoning for the color choice there.

Hmmm. What about cranberry? And using the shirt color for the red flowers? I am SO asphalted out, but you still need a contrast. Just a thought.

Yeah, it's the best the choice, it just feels less integrated into the background than usual. To be honest I initially was thinking that she was emerging to spring so it didn't make any sense why it would be gray but I realized I had the myth backwards.

I think it's mostly due to the stark lines on the cave mouth. Either way I'm glad to see it in the fog.

It sells the transition from the underworld to springtime quite effectively. Hmmm it's very restrained but I like this a lot. :^)

Good luck taninniver!

Very nice! I'd love to see a mythology themed shirt; I'd wear it to state Latin convention in the spring... :-)

This is beautiful! I love the still somber, mood while the flowers are blooming around her. Still trying to shake off that underworld chill, it seems. GMV!

I'm liking it. Quick question for the artist...did you actually use scratchboard for the design? I love scratchboard. Anyways...looks great!

Shoot I was really hoping this would make it. I LOVE the shadows in this, and the "darker" take on a Spring shirt. A beautiful design, keep em coming!
