Slick finish to a clever idea tjost. Does it come with an iWant app?

Since I'm always waving my iPhone around at concerts like a fool, I will need to purchase this shirt. I really like the "rock on" hand on the iPhone and the angry crossed arms on the lighter. Nice work!

I'm going to have to disagree with the cleverness. This joke has been made by pretty much every person that's ever seen the app or by anyone who's ever just held up a cell phone at a concert. I'm not saying it's lifted, but the idea itself is nothing special.

What really pulls the shirt down in my opinion is the faux sloppy shininess that can only be a mildly subtle attempt to trick ramy voters into clicking. Really not your best work by any stretch.

Must have phoned this one in......

Hey, now, my thumbs are REAL happy about the new phone apps. I have two or three different ones on my Droid, and not one blister.
Reminds me - Disturbed is next week. Gotta see if they have this 'lighter' app for the Droid. Rock on!

Pun alert ^
I have to disagree in part. Sure, not the best I've ever seen from tjost. But his really artful sub from last week failed, and the simplified version fogged but didn't win.
And tjost has used varied styles, one of which is a semi-chibi that is nevertheless better rendered and has better humor that most of ramyb's.
I dunno, maybe he pandered a tetch. But it still makes a cute shirt.

I like! The layout, colors and characters all read very easily, and it's a joke anyone can appreciate. ^__^

I like my Droid X better too, but the fact remains, for the time being at least, that iPhones have a greater market saturation then Android or any other smart OS enabled phone. Plus Android phones come in all shapes and colors while Apples are a little more uniform in appearance.

Here's a cool little art lesson, plastic and polished metal reflect when non diffused light shine on them Both the phone and lighter are made out of these materials hence shine. I like giving my pieces dimension, and adding simple high lights and low lights enables this. These practices were being used in cartooning long before Ramy or I came onto the scene and I suspect will continue on past us. I don't however put shiny "spots" on furry or non shiny animals or surfaces like some other artists though.

On the idea, I appreciate your critique, it's valid. The joke has been around since cell phones started to enter into the mainstream and have glowy screens. However after looking for similar use through many sites I wasn't able to find anything similar to this so I thought it fair game as far as being unique was concerned. Sorry you don't like it, maybe next time though

Thanks to everyone else who likes this though. I appreciate it

Naw, Android has surpassed iPhone. And Blackberry is more prevalent than both.

Let me clarify, the iphones are the highest as far as single type of phone. There are more android os phones but not of a single type and not all android phones are on the same level or running the same os. RIM is starting to die because they sat on their laurels too long they just recently got phones that could actually surf the web using html browsers. Apple has the most visual prescence and will remain around for a while especially because of the new verizon deal. But like I said I like my Droid X

It's not that you used lighting effects and it's not that ramy somehow revolutionized shirt design with his own technique. Far from it actually since his "style" is a bastardization of standard chibi art at best. That said, he was the first to truly bring it here and since there have been a rash of imitations to garner votes (see almost anything patrickspens had subbed in say the last year).

It's also not the shininess so much as it is the lazy fat lines that look like they were drawn with a fat marker. Correct enough to make sure people can recognize what's being drawn but sloppy enough to get the "dawwww" effect. No one did this here before ramy and I very highly doubt any assertion of "independent origin" (see above).

The iphone is characterized by clean sharp lines. Crisp and precise. This misses the boat by a mile in all respects so wanting to add some depth really doesn't hold any water because there are almost a million ways to do it without making your designs look like a ramy clone.

Re: Concerts will never be the same

HA! This is great. I've often sympathized with the poor old fashioned lighters many-a-time at concerts.

It's a shame that doing pieces that have similar accents or elements to others get labeled "clones". I think it's a shame this site is so harsh in that manner. A critical eye is one thing, expressing an opinion is welcome. Claiming theft of style, content, etc. is completely another. Are some guilty of it? Yes, as has been shown here before. However, inspiration comes from everywhere and is interpreted differently. Artists who have talent and show passion for what they do should not have to constantly defend every single iota of their pieces. Tjost, you have shown that you have a tremendous variance of style, so just keep doing what you do. Most of us enjoy it.

Oh, and did I forget to mention that these are T-SHIRTS and not an exhibit at a high end gallery?! When I see someone with a funny shirt, I don't particularly care about the minutia of the lighting, shading, etc. It's wearable art. I guess I just don't take everything so seriously...:D

Re: Concerts will never be the same

Great shirt! I hope it passes muster. Surprised the lighter didn't give an obscene gesture since the smartphone "stole it's fire" LOL!

Now my next goal is to find an app that imitates the SM0KE from these concerts. :D

Can you redesign this so that it's the white iPhone instead? Great, thx!
