Once I started listing titles and imagery from books to do with colour the ideas spilled out from the page. I have not counted all the references, both obvious and obscure, but hope you have fun discovering your favourites.

Here's a link to a larger version Shelf Life-Detail

Very interesting to study and lovely form a distance too. I love how the frog prince crosses over both green and yellow!

But how is this not 7 colors - your detail doesn't show any halftones except the grey in the book itself - red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple and white...that's 7.

I generally run this risk because most designs are started a day into each derby and this one took a bit longer. We'll have to wait and see.

Tvae wrote:Is... Is that Redwall?

Dr.Seuss with the green eggs and ham

James and the Giant Peach

Thanks again to everyone for voting this into the fog, the response has been a great surprise. As you said Narfcake, two days into the derby made it harder, but voters managed to get it there in about 24 hours.

laggyg wrote:but I was really hoping for a mouse or badger or rabbit weilding a weapon somewhere when I read that.
I primarily focussed on objects that were a colour and book titles that included a colour in them. That's why Tvae might have spotted Redwall Abbey.

I really didn't mean to goad you into revealing answers, but was intending to ask other wooters to share ideas on their interpretations. There are definitely many options for a lot of the images, which is one of my favorite parts of the design. However, some of them were stumping me, and as I said, I'm way curious.

Thank you for replying, though, and letting me/us know if we guessed some correctly!

Initially I thought it was TLP, but someone suggested BATB. I've not read the original BATB, so wasn't sure if the rose was under glass (as depicted in the Disney movie). Either way, I like the image.

Ahh, now I see The Tell-Tale Heart, just south of the strawberry. It's really hiding in there (appropriately). The eruption is maybe a reference to The Twenty-One Balloons or Journey to the Center of the Earth. I recognize the moon, but I can't put a title to it. . . .

The bots do amazing things to literary references. Melville's white whale got renamed!

Only thing I can think of is "It Came from Beyond the Sun" because it looks like they're coming from out of that big, yellow sun.

    I'm probably wrong, though

I'm shocked that this didn't grab 1st, with the momentum it clearly had from the start...and honestly I'm a little disgusted, considering what design beat this one...

I was all set to purchase 3 of these, but alas I must wait for (hopefully!) tomorrow...*sigh*

I'll be holding my breath and refreshing all weekend to make sure I get one of these.

I completely agree. It's not the design that beat this one but the designer. This has happened before. Just sayin'

Actually, in some countries he's known as Wally.

    Examine Bindle of Carrots.
    What Bindle of Carrots?

    Dear Woot Gods,

Please, please, please print this shirt. If it does not place in the top 3 of the derby (how could it not but who would have figured a white kitten would beat it?), please print it anyway.

I really, really, really must have this shirt. In several sizes. Kids and adults. Please.

    Thank you.

Thanks laggyg. You and a few others have been very vocal supporters, so I'm glad to that your hopes were fulfilled. It's been a great week watching the groundswell of support send it up into the fog and keep it there.
My heartfelt appreciation goes out to all the voters and the very entertaining contributors to this thread. It made for fun reading! This is my first derby print earned on votes. Previously the good staff at Woot gave me a taste for printing with this Editor's Choice http://shirt.woot.com/Friends.aspx?k=18192
