I’m just saying, there were signs. When he was a sapling, he shook a baby chipmunk right out of his branches. Poor little thing never saw it coming. The animals, big red flag. That’s how it starts.
Of course I’m not making excuses for him, but you can sort of understand why it happened. Before all his leaves grew in, the other trees used to tease him mercilessly. Called him names like “Woody” and “Louie Little Buds.”
Up till then it was all emotional, never physical. But that all changed the day that couple carved their initials in his trunk. Then to make matters worse, they CLIMBED him. I know, it’s just horrific. He never really recovered. I think that was the turning point.
One day he’s sitting alone, quietly reading. Next day, he’s got a chainsaw and he’s making firewood. It’s just such a tragedy. But now that we know what to look for, we can keep this kind of thing from ever happening again.
Wear this shirt: in honor of fallen trees everywhere.
Don’t wear this shirt: if you don’t even recycle. Jeez! The bin is RIGHT THERE.
This shirt tells the world: you’re a tree hugger. Because everyone deserves to feel loved.
We call this color: Kelly Green. You know the type – long limbs, golden foliage, cheerleader.
