Re: Carbon Footprint

Here it is. Didn't change much from what I posted in the forum late last night. Hope you like it. If so, please spare a vote! Thanks for your consideration.

I love it! I saw it in the forums with your musings on color, and I'm glad you chose to go with the green.

I have a recycled bag that says "My carbon footprint is smaller than yours" and this is the geekly, subtle way of saying that...heh...

invisiblecrazy, thank you very much. That's great to hear. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, especially since I was struggling to stay awake to finish it off past 4am. I didn't make it easy on myself with the changes I ended up making so I had to pretty much start over.

I consider myself an environmentalist as well (I guess the username earthart would point in that direction) and find myself often going back to earth or nature based themes, although I do like to mix it up when possible. I have a bunch of recycled bags as well, although mine don't have a clever slogan like yours. I'll have to keep my eye open for those since mine are getting pretty worn out and may be on rag duty soon. Thanks again.

Re: Carbon Footprint

Cute design Earth! I remember when Derek entered a dripping, painterly footprint in an earlier derby. I think he mentioned that his wife was the model for the print. Did you have a foot model as well?

This would have been cute as a few footprints up the side of the shirt too.

Thanks for the comments left on my Midas design. I saw your design in the other derby (the b/w one in the derbylympics.) We definitely share a similar interest in geometric shapes and patterns. I'm looking forward to seeing the design you did 'living' color. I think it will look great when you color it in!

No, no live model, although that would have been nice! Sorry. I studied photographs and other renderings of footprints. Much less of an adventure I guess.

Since I did that piece for the B&W derby, I have found myself sketching a lot more in my "natural" style. I did get a lot of positive feedback about it which definitely surprised me, so I will give it another shot for sure.

I know that isn't for everyone, but I think folks who might not like it would be surprised at just how much thought can go into an abstract design sometimes. I have re-drawn a single line in such a design no less than ten times to get an angle "right". I look forward to working on more stuff like that as well as to seeing your future designs. Thanks again for your encouragement.

I really like this, but in the closeup it almost looks like you used gradients..

Thank you for your feedback. I didn't use gradients, but I did use 5 of my 6 colors to achieve a gradient effect. It seems by your comment I may have pulled it off! I just hope the rejectionator doesn't think I used gradients. I probably should have included a color palette on my comp to avoid confusion. Thanks again.

Hi Earthart! I like this design too! and the "gradient" effect! Read your comments in Toe's thread & wanted to say that I think maybe a detail like you did on your comp would look good on the thumbnail. On my screen I get a moray sp? effect on the whole footprint. Maybe the title & a detail of the honeycomb with "click to see yours" would do it? Don't know. Good luck & GMV!

Hello again rachel1aaron! Great to hear from you and thanks so much for your feedback and vote. Sorry for the delayed reply. My son decided he would take two hours to fall asleep tonight--he's still awake and I'm the one that ended up falling asleep! I think I would have liked to do as you suggested, but I don't know if it is legit to have the thumbnail show something that doesn't really reflect the design. I may write to woot to see if I can find that out for future reference. That would have definitely been helpful. Thanks again.

Re: Carbon Footprint

just a heads up, this was in the derby instructions

Make the element the first word in the title of your entry, followed by a colon and the rest of your title (e.g., "Helium: the Silent Killer").

Yours doesn't appear to follow that, so it might be rejectable.

I remember those days! :o) My childrens' desire to be awake was always directly proportionate to my desire for sleep! No matter what time of day! School's started & there's less free time now, but had to check out the derby! Your thumbnail isn't the only one that does the weird pattern thing, some that use the large halftone dots do it too. It's deceptive, but I always look at the larger image anyway. If your detail is an actual part of the shirt design, I don't know why it wouldn't be acceptable for the thumbnail. But good idea to ask them. Hope you get an answer soon!

Ooh. Thanks for the heads-up. That would be a big-time bummer. Hopefully they won't nix me for a typo in the title. I'm keeping my fingers crossed as I am hoping this may be my best showing yet in a derby or at least come close to eclipsing my best one (I haven't even come close since that first entry). Thanks again.

My son is just over 2 now so those are will be with me for a while yet! He takes after me as it appears he will also be a night owl. Glad to see you found a bit of time to check out the derby. I've been hooked for a while now despite some pretty poor showings. There's a term for that pattern effect you are seeing that is eluding me now, but if it is what I think I have seen that before (it isn't happening on my end, but every monitor is different). As for the thumbnail, toe wrote back and seems to think pretty much anything goes. He is probably right, but I think I might still check with woot for verification. Here's to wishing us both a good night's sleep (the odds are against me as my son has a cold). Thanks again for everything.

Unfortunately (for me since your hinges on it), it is on brown, not grey. I had contemplated grey but decided that brown fit the concept better. Sorry. But thank you for considering it and I'm glad to hear you like the design.

Thank you! I'm really excited about how it's doing. I was so tired the night I made it that I very nearly gave up. It would be awesome to break the top ten for the first time, but even if I drop some spots I'm very happy. My son was feeling a little better today. We played a lot outside as it was a beautiful day. Thank you very much for asking about him. I'm still hurting on the sleep front, but I'm used to that by now. Keeping my fingers crossed that the votes keep coming in. Thanks again!

Thank you so much for the kind words. I am excited with how it has done thus far, but looking at what is ahead of me, a top three finish seems highly unlikely (unless the votes start piling in!). Having it printed would be unreal, but I have my fingers crossed just to break the top ten for the first time. Thanks again for the compliments and for wishing me luck.

Way to go holding your spot @ 12! Wish it were higher by 9 or more, but you really hung in there! Can't wait to see what you'll come up with next... See Mercury! :o)

Thank you! Sorry for the delayed reply. I've felt like a zombie all day and am just now waking up (when I should be getting ready to wind down). I wish I had gotten higher as well but I can't complain as this is the best I've ever done on woot. I was dreaming of a top ten finish, but again, I can't complain. Very happy with the results. I'm so out of gas from all that has happened over the last few weeks, I might actually sit out of this derby. I'm almost surely not going to have anything for when the derby opens unless I can whip up something quick tonight. If I do, it will have to be pretty simple as I don't think I will have enough juice to do anything complex. I'm going to send you a PM in case you miss this post. Thanks again for your support. I can't thank you enough.
