Re: Not This Time, Fat Boy

So whats going on here?! Did the mushroom climb its way out of its question mark prison and totally hulk out on Mario?

Was it the son of a mushroom from past playthroughs who became a professional body builder only to unleash his wrath on the man who killed his father (prepare to die!) ?

Or most horrifyingly of all...did this mushroom CANNIBALIZE another mushroom to achieve his awesome new powerz?

I like the cannibal story, so lets go with that. It really shows this lil guys commitment to VENGEANCE ;D

Now THIS is a Super Mario reference I will buy. I like it! I also like that it reminds me of Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.

Maybe I am not a big enough Mario fan but I don't understand how this fits the theme. It is a video game reference. It is a fungus come to life reference. But food?

While i respect and acknowledge the anti-mushrooms-as-food movement of the early 1700's under sir BuzzKillington the third i must respectfully disagree and state that yes, indeed, mushrooms are food.

I don't like pop culture references here, and especially not Mario references, but this looks pretty good and well done to me. Considering how popular stuff like this usually is around here I'm pretty shocked at how few votes it has.

I kinda like the joke, but I don't know. The art seems a little strange and skewed to me.

THIS kind of mushroom, a Amanita Muscaria, is NOT food. It is very poisonous:

I have only picked up about 9 woot shirts over 3 years. If this gets to print you'll be #10. Well done.

Likewise! People here eat up Mario references like they've been starving out at sea for months!!

This is so well done. It's one of the few designs I've seen that I'd rather have a print than have it printed on a tee. Good luck.

Firstly, the kind of mushroom depicted in my pic is NOT an Amanita Muscaria. Its what is refferred to as a Imaginarus Mushroomia; a nondescript mushroom of general properties, of which is edibility (hence mario eating them and NOT dying).

Secondly, this ;D

Great art.. But does not really make sense to me. The mushrooms are mario's ally every time. Just strange.

Look at it this way; a portly foreigner prances about a world populated by mushroom people (the mushroom kingdom) of many varieties. there are the mushrooms with arms and legs, which we can safely assume are the "adult" mushrooms of this kingdom due to their size. So where/what are the young? Since mushrooms reproduce asexually there are no male/female mushroom people, the only distinction that can be made is between young and old, small and large. So these small mushrooms are presumably the younger versions of mushroom people, housed in dark and enclosed spaces for maturation (question mark boxes) until the time they can defend themselves.

But what happens? Fatty McMoustache here comes along and CONSUMES THE FLESH OF THE INNOCENT for his own selfish gain (gettin some of that princess action). He rampages across the countryside smashing the brick structures of the mushroom people and stealing their currency leaving a swath of destruction in his wake that both cripples the mushroom kingdom economy and devastates its peoples future survival as a species.

Mario Bros is secretly some messed up stuff.

Not to be *that geek*, but I feel the need to point out that according to the original manual, and indeed the BOX ART of the game, Mario doesn't eat the mushrooms. He frees them from the question blocks (which they were transformed into) and they in turn boost his power. No eating. You'd think Giant Mushroom Guy would at least pretend to be grateful for his freedom.

Firstly, I think the design is awesome.
Secondly, you have the best responses ever.
Thirdly, to everyone else, you need to stop taking this so seriously. It's a design for a t-shirt.

Isn't Mario friends with Toad and the mushroom people community?

I'm pretty sure it's suppose to be a goomba.. the little mushrooms Mario is always squashing even though all they do is walk around. How cruel. But I can see why you'd think it was Toad seeing as he already is an Anthropomorphic mushroom... he just has like an actual body and this is more of a goomba with limbs. I'll stop talking now before I sound even more like a geek.

Even if this doesn't win, I hope the editor decides to print it at some point in the future. This is just so badass, and probably the coolest Mario shirt I've ever seen.
