@Johndis5, it's planet Earth as a cookie (see the nations marked with cracks and chips). So yes, the Cthulhu/Cookie Monster is in space.

Awesome coloring! Looks fantastic on the t-shirt!
Spirit, you already know I think you're good. Your execution is always pretty great.
I didn't see the Earth reference right away either, thought once I did, it still wasn't striking to me (especially since the cookie is so flat). Forgetting that, the cookie's eyes have that glazed/sterile/lifeless look to them that I'm not a big fan of. And the two of them look almost like they have nothing to do with one another except for the evidence of floating crumbs.
The fur looks great, and you always pick nicely contrasting colors, but I can't get over that they both just look plastered on the shirt separately. Maybe if the cookie was slightly tilted? Or perhaps if cookie monster was actually munching feverishly on him? As it is though, it falls flat to me.
Re: Cookiethulhu
I'm not sure how I feel about this. On one hand, you have cookie monster in space. On the other, cthulhu. But together? That's just weird. I hafta say I don't like it.

Re: Cookiethulhu
I like the concept but the two different parts look like they were created by two different artists. The cookie sticks out like a sore thumb with its plasticy colors and its beady eyes. They really don't match. If you made the cookie more in the style of the monster the shirt wwould look a lot better imo.
Re: Cookiethulhu
You know, this is pretty great. It reminds me of the Cookie Monster song where he really does eat the moon! Except you made it the Earth, which makes sense with the Cthulu reference.

Once again the completely overdone Cthulhu-themed shirt makes an appearance. And while I guess putting a small face on a cookie makes this anthropomorphic food it seems a bit 1ame.
Re: Cookiethulhu
The theme is obviously an afterthought here. The face of the cookie has nothing to do with the joke being made, and the shirt could easily make sense without it.

I just don't see how this is anthropomorphic food. It's a cookie with eyes and a mouth. I'd call that a big stretch.
Re: Cookiethulhu
You even said yourself that the cookie is supposed to be the EARTH. Here's the definition of Anthropomorphic for you:
an·thro·po·mor·phic
adjective /ˌanTHrəpəˈmôrfik/
1. Relating to or characterized by anthropomorphism
2. Having human characteristics
Look at that second one. HUMAN CHARACTERISTICS. Not Earthly characteristics.
Also, just having a mouth and eyes doesn't give something human characteristics. Fish have eyes and faces. Are fish humans? No.
Besides, you said yourself, the cookie is supposed to be the earth, it should be rejected for that alone. C'mon, woot.
Besides, this shirt is getting votes for something that is neither human or food. Wow.

Not to be a stickler, but this is a pretty good point. As well made as it is,
this is definitely a cookie monster shirt with a smiley face slapped on a cookie as opposed to an anthropomorphic food design.

Yes, it's an anthropomorphic cookie the size of a planet. Decorated like the Earth. Big enough to sustain its own atmosphere. Horrified at being eaten.
What? That's a perfectly normal thing to imagine. Why are you looking at me like that?
Re: Cookiethulhu
If someone can make a compact disc and a cassette tape into Cthulhu, I don't think the Cookie Monster should be off limits. The concept is certainly bizarre, but it is executed really well. So much that the pun and technical cash in on the characters involved can be over looked. If anything, I think most should tell that you REALLY wanted to make this idea come to life.
Re: Cookiethulhu
dont know why everyone is getting their panties in a bunch over the two elements not going together. to me this is very simple, if you wanted to make the cookie monster cuthulhu, then of course the earth would be a cookie. this is completely logical to me.
Re: Cookiethulhu
I think the design is a clever parallel, but I'm afraid I think it's not true to the theme. The subject of the design is not anthropomorphic food, it's the cookie monster/cthulu joke. If you took the face off of the cookie, the joke would be just as funny (to me, anyway).
It is very well done, and I enjoy the design, I just think this derby wasn't the place for it. Just mho. I always enjoy your work, Spiritgreen!
While this is funny and well done, I'm generally getting burnt out on Cthulhu. I think his appearance on THREE episodes of South Park last year was when he jumped the shark. For crying out loud, there's no squiggly red line underneath his name as I type this post -- MS word and the like now recognize his name like they would "Roger" or "Susan"?!? Say it ain't so.
And that picture of cookie monster with the fruits and vegetables breaks my heart. Poor kids these days.
I usually dig your work, SG, but I can't get behind this. It comes off as thoughtlessly pandering, and it's barely on theme, as much as slapping a kawaii face onto a cookie to shoehorn it on theme can be.
Yes, everything in Sesame Street has a face. So why is he Cthulhu? It's a hodgepodge of hastily slapped together elements that have been popular on woot in the past, with the cookie's face thrown in to make it on theme. Yes, the illustration in and of itself is good, but I can't say I'm a fan of this design.

I can't believe I'm going to say this...I agree with jmmbell1987 100%. It's pandering, forced and has a Cthulhu (the new lolcat)as a bonus.
megsck wrote:dont know why everyone is getting their panties in a bunch over the two elements not going together. to me this is very simple, if you wanted to make the cookie monster cuthulhu, then of course the earth would be a cookie. this is completely logical to me.
I think you are missing the point, though. That part of Cthulhu and the Earth being what they are is "fine"(though arguably overdone and the reference just seems forced in there); rather, and the reason it should be rejected, is that, as mentioned by many others previously, the cookie is not "anthropomorphic" and thus, this shirt is off-topic.
Spirit, I think this looks great. The effort involved is leagues above most of the other fogged entries and it looks awesome on the shirt. I'm personally not into Cuthulu stuff but I'd definitely buy this for my kid. As for the off topic question...I can't argue on any of that as I don't think Woot seems to be very picky about that stuff anymore and a lot of artists tend to slide through (the Cyberpunk derby being especially obvious) so I don't really get all the crits coming at you on that end. People just seem more annoyed than usual?

OK, I'm not into the alt-sci-fi references, so I had to look up "Cthuhlu" (I know, I guess I'm not even a nerd)... BUT now that I know what Cthuhlu is, and all I know about Sesame Street's "original" idea of Cookie Monster, and his bit about if the moon were a cookie...
THIS SHIRT IS TOTALLY ON TOPIC...
Just as we give personality and a soul to "Mother Earth" or "the man in the moon", this cookie earth was given a personaily and feelings, expressed in it's face at being attacked by this monstrous, other-worldy being...
Wouldn't we as humanity have these feelings if anything showed up and attacked our planet. We give humanity to our earth. Without humanity, it's just another rock buzzing around a star. We are this planet's "soul"... SO, extrapellate that into earth being a cookie, and Cookiethuhlu taking a chunk out of it... The humanity of cookie-earth would be in shock and terror.
That makes this shirt totally readable, and the personified cookie-earth is certainly anthropomorphic enough... so it wasn't given washboard abs, long legs or a handlebar moustache, but it was given fear and terror and awe.
IMVHO, I think this shirt is superb, very well executed. The depth of space and the lighting is interesting and well laid out.
