Re: Fire maker, Rain bringer

Quetzalcoatl the great feathered serpent has an interesting duality in Mesoamerican folklore as the maker of fire and bringer of rain.

Two representations are intertwined here between the Mayan glyphs for fire and water. This is a four color side print on an asphalt tee. Click here to see a BIG VERSION.

Thanks for looking,

This is great, and I love the placement as well. Nice to see something not centered.

Would the colors pop more on a silver shirt?
I love the design, side placement, execution.
Voted regardless of color.

Very nice design, and also a well-thought-out composition. As something of a student of Mayan culture, and having finished the Popol Vuh, I'm glad you took the time to draw this one up.

Kudos.

Hey, thanks so much guys! :^)

@crazacool, I'm really pleased you can appreciate the elements in the design from that perspective!

@blk909, thanks for the suggestion. I did try it on silver and slate this morning but these bright colors seem to work best on a darker gray.

ok, I trust you implicitly. The shirts always look better in person than on my monitor. I didn't realize the colors are bright; hoping for a print! I'll even send one to my friend in Japan!

As a Mexican I have to say that is one really good way of picturing what Mexico is really about. Thank you for a very good design and equally good artwork. +1.

One to be born from a dragon, hoisting the light and the dark, arises high up in the sky, to the still land. Veiling the moon with the light of eternity, it brings another promise to mother earth with a bounty and mercy.

Such a strong graphic Spiritgreen. Really like that twisting shape, bold line work and the texture spread through the colours.

I fully expect to be slammed for making the comparison, but I can't help but think back to this entry: http://shirt.woot.com/derby/entry.aspx?id=39461

Lovely. Simple complexity, if that makes sense.

No, I agree. I knew I'd seen a design like this on here somewhere before. It's not exactly the same, but it's too close for comfort in my opinion.

I so wanted to do a Quetzalcoatl design, but chickened out after a bit of research. I'm glad to see one, and a good one at that, stay here after all!

I just love the placement of Fire/Rain. I've been holding back on getting a 16th Woot shirt (lord has it been that many?) but this one would definitely break the hold out if printed ;)

Beautiful colors, looks best on this dark grey background, and no, it doesn't look anything like that "other" dragon shirt. People are so critical! Hope you win!

Re: Fire maker, Rain bringer

I really like the shirt, but I have a question for whoever makes the rules around here. Does the religious figure ban only apply to Christianity then? Smells like a double standard to me...

P.S. I'm not going to report you because I like your design.

That is really well done. I admit, I hadn't taken the time to look at it until now; but the textures are really awesome, and the linework is great. GMV, actually. -:O

So pleased this is still in the running, thanks to everyone supporting this design!

I tried to concentrate on two things; the meaning of the artwork and making something wearable. Sounds easy enough doesn't it, but it usually doesn't work out that way. :^)
