A Dream Within A Dream
There’s no “equal partner” in life. There’s just prey, and prey that’s not yet ripe.
Darkly forest kitties judge
Stolid hearts refuse to budge
But in my fear I run and hide
From radiant feline eyes
Branches crack with wooden voices
Scratches show my awkward choices
Nearby lights from city gas
Mark me as prey for Bast
My sin, my sin, from which I flee
Her scorn and hatred poured on me
Her judging eyes around my throat
The dry food often makes her choke
And I can see her in the night
Her eyes marked with an angry light
She plans revenge upon my face
Her purr will crush me into place
I am the mouse, she has control
But food is not her final goal
For her the hunt is simple fun
And so I run, And so I run.
