Derby #199: Cyberpunk
Hey, this Derby's over. When you're finished reliving past glories, check out what's going on in the Derby right now. It's probably even cooler. Or at least newer.
We're taking a trip down memory lane this week with our high-tech lowlife derby dedicated to Cyberpunk. You see, before it was about horrible fashion choices for rejects from a Lady Gaga video, Cyberpunk was a science fiction genre with themes of artificial intelligence, evil megacorporations, and general futuristic dystopia with a noir flair. So give us your futuristic techno-dystopian urban wastelands. For inspiration check out films like Blade Runner, books like Neuromancer, and games like GURPS or System Shock. And keep in mind the weird dichotomy that arises in films like Aliens, when people envisioned a bleak future but didn't know stuff like touch screens were just a few years off, so everyone's pushing analog buttons and using tiny green and black monitors. Now for the rules:
- No pop culture. Yes, we know you didn't invent the concept of "hackers" or "cyberpunks," but just make sure they don't actually look like Johnny Mnemonic.
- Incidental text only. If your hacker has some futuristic glyphs on their face reflected from a computer screen, fine.
